The streets of Albuquerque will be swarmed with cops tonight, even more than Mardi Gras and New Years' Eve. not worth the risk. Traffic will be operating under the Braille rules--Hit it, then you know where it is.

Not worth the risk.

Yep, been to Albuquerque during Cinco de Mayo when I was station at Cannon AFB. It was pretty crazy. Definitely not the best night for non-hispanic people to be on the streets:SB|

Cinco de Mayo, St. Paddy's Day, New Year's, Halloween = AMATURE NIGHT when all the little wussy wanna-be rock stars swarm the scene and try to drink and party like the genuine articles, with no prior training, no abilty to hold their shit together, and no cab number in their cell phones.

That's why I like to avoid being out on the road on these holidays.

Be careful y'all, and while you're out, show them how it's done right! B|

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

Well, as a Latin, I will celebrate. Actually, as a French, I am going to raid the city of Puebla tonight, and reclaim it. Louisiana, you're next!:|

Not all us Gringoes are that bad. Having dated both a Spaniard girl and a Mexican girl, I know that it's easy to differentiate...

What kelel01 said. Sort of. Although I'm born and raised in the good ol USA
both sets of my grandfolks are from the Azores, which is part of Portugal
so I'm all Portuguese from an ethnic point of view.

Racially/genetically speaking Portugal and Spain are pretty much the same

Well, each culture is quite different, it's true. However, I was referring to to fact that the holiday is specifically a MEXICAN holiday and celebrated more in the United States. Of course, it's a fun day for a party, no matter what your race or culture. :)
In case anyone is interested, here is some more information...just to clarify things a bit more.

"In the United States, the "Batalla de Puebla" came to be known as simply "5 de Mayo" and unfortunately, many people wrongly equate it with Mexican Independence which was on September 16, 1810, nearly a fifty year difference. Over, the years Cinco de Mayo has become very commercialized and many people see this holiday as a time for fun and dance. Oddly enough, Cinco de Mayo has become more of Chicano holiday than a Mexican one. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on a much larger scale here in the United States than it is in Mexico. People of Mexican descent in the United States celebrate this significant day by having parades, mariachi music, folklorico dancing and other types of festive activities."

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone! B| :)
