Converter or Inverter help

Ok here is the deal. I have some unused car audio crap in my house that I want to play around with and some spare time. Specifically a Kicker 12" solobaric and a Rockford Fosgate 500/1500 watt amp. I want to hook it up inside, but do not want a battery in the house. I am looking for something to plug into the wall that will provide around 50 amps of DC power. Thanks

Inverter varies your frequency , so not one of them !
Check out transformers with a bridge rectifier.
If no one else posts a suitable idea I'll get back to to you , gotta go out now.

Yea I saw some for campers , but it looked like it was more for charging batteries. The thing is that the amp will be surging and drawing lots of power in short bursts and I am thinking that a converter/inverter needs to be built for that sort of thing.

Power (watts) = volts x amps

so it looks like you want a 600w, 12 v Transformer.

well power (watts) 1500 peak 500 rms/ voltage(13.5)=amps so I need a power source dc of 12-13.5 that can put our 37-111 peak amps. The peak part is not a concern as the amp mfg's use that as a market trick it usually never puts out that power. The Rms amperage is all that really applies.

No sorry the quoted value of power for your sound system, isn't what I was discussing, it was the power requirements of your PSU (12 volts as it is automobile equipment and 50 amps, cus that's what you asked for), so it seemed tgo me that you needed a 600 watt Power Supply Unit (PSU).. sorry for the confusion.

I just realized what you ment. So here is my thought. I wonder if a computer power supply would work. I found some that put out 550 watts 12v, and if my high skoul math works out 550/12v=45 amps? Am I running down the wrong track here?

Using a PC PSU sounds good in theory but I dont know if any of the output plugs and lines could sustain 50 amps? Maybe someone else could answer that bit...
But it feels like you're on the right line.

I powered a 200 Watt MTX amp with my old Rosewill 400watt PSU for a computer. The 12v rail on it was rated for 32 amps and I forget the MTX, but it was lower. It worked pretty well too.

How did you hook up all the wires? I noticed that on most Comp power supplies there are 5,6,7 terminals for cpu,audio,hard drive,ect. Did you just combine all the wires with the same polarities and twist them all together?

I pulled one of the molex connectors off of the 4 wire plug. I used the Red wire as the power with a jumper to the radio signal which turns the amp on. Then I used the ground closest to the red wire. So you should have an extra yellow wire and it's black ground.
