eeneR 3 #1 May 5, 2005 Well...after having talked to the Doc on Monday...It looks like infact I do need to have shoulder surgery Things are pretty much set that May 20th I will be going under the knife to repair the damage to my shoulder. They will be repairing both a torn Rotator cuff and a torn labrum. Big picture on this is yes I could leave it be...and it would be ok for someone with a basic life. However that is not what I want. I want to be able to climb, I want to be able to skydive and everything else. I do not want to walk around with parts of my shoulder torn. So of course I opted to take the surgery route, be down for the next 6 months while it heals knowing that in the long run...the big picture if you will...my shoulder will not be damaged anymore. My season is pretty much gone now. But I will be back in the air as soon as I can be. craichead 0 #2 May 5, 2005 It will pay off as long as you follow your Dr's instructions and are diligent with your physical therapy! Best of luck from one shoulder surgery patient to another! Let me know if I can do anything for you. I don't think you mentioned before...are you having arthroscopic or open shoulder surgery? _Pm__ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

I have floating cartilage in my right shoulder that needs to be removed and my rotator cuff needs to be fixed as well. then my left shoulder the doc might want to operate as well to fix it from when i dislocated it.-Fish Blue skies, Soft landings

That's kind of how I felt when I made the decision to have surgery a year ago. And I hadn't even gone skydiving yet! Of course, my recovery period was a little shorter (about 3-4 months) but I still had to pass on some of the fun stuff I wanted to do last summer. Totally worth it, though - I'm pain free and don't really worry about it anymore. Good luck!"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Well for general activities he said about 3 months...but for high impact and full contact I will prolly need 6 months to heal. Time will tell as everyone is different. They told me 6 months plus on my ACL and I was done in 4. I just have to be a good girl and follow doctors orders And that is it right there...I want it fixed now, dont want to screw around and do more damage to it that might not be as fixable as this is.She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
livendive 8 #8 May 5, 2005 I had shoulder surgeries in 2000, 2001, and 2003. They suck, and there's quite a bit of pain afterwards, but in the long run they're worth it. Take your PT seriously and you can shorten the rehab time substantially. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

It really kinda sux when the doc tells you that he cant do anything for you but give you more pain killers.... and tell you that you'll just have to work with it...HAVE FUN... ...JUST DONT DIE
ladyskydiver 0 #16 May 6, 2005 It sucks that you need surgery and will be out for the season, but look at it this way, it's not permanent AND you'll be healed in time for the next tunnel camp. And, I'm sure that we can come up with a few whuffo things to do to keep you occupied. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably.
