ergirl 0 #1 May 6, 2005 Hey, I have a few questions.....I was injured skydiving in Feb 2005, injuries were a broken pelvis (my entire butt was one BIG bruise), and 2 bones in each foot were broken. I was told that I could skydive in 3-6 months. I plan on jumping again this month. I am soooooo excited to get back in the air, but 1. How do you let your family and friends know that you are okay to jump? Everyone is freaking out when I say I want to jump again. Is it better not to let them know until after the fact? I have triplet sisters and 2 of them have made skydives, and they still don't understand. 2. I think I am going to be more scared than I was for my first jump......Is this normal? Let me know yourthoughts........"Life is not measured by your number of breaths, but by the moments that take your breath away."
freefalle 0 #2 May 6, 2005 Erin, First of all, your fear to get back in the air is normal, work through it. It will decrease as time goes on. On your first skydive back, jump with whoever YOU feel comfortable with as far as instructors to get you current again, weather its billy or jean or DJ, whoever, its your choice. When it comes time for you to jump again, you will know. You are smart, use your head you will know when them time is right. As for your family, its hard for most people here who know little or nothing about the dynamics of your family to answer that question. With the little bit you and I have talked about, my suggestion is when you are ready, make your skydive, I'll shoot a video for you, and do some stills if you would like, take that home and let them see it, let them see you happy and let them see you land safe. Your family, at least your mom is going to toss a guppie either way. Its your life, go big and live it. Your friends welcome you back. Be careful, use your head and Git 'er dunn. And for the love of God stay the hell out of the powerlines you knucklehead!
plowdirt 0 #3 May 6, 2005 got that 3 month itch huh. Ready to jump and all cured from a broken pelvis already. Basically you don't have to convince them of anything, and it sounds like you have yourself convinced, but are you really ready???? If your scared you may not be ready, causes hesitation and bad judgement. Just go jump, you could stand a canopy control course, better judgement when you spot, and the ever infamous no I don't want to go. good luck and BE SAFE DAMNIT. OFCOURSE IT'S NORMAL

They will never understand why you, or anyone else, jumps. Tell them, or better yet show them the video, after you make your return jump. They still won't get it, but maybe they won't give you as much flak. Quote2. I think I am going to be more scared than I was for my first jump......Is this normal? Totally, absolutely, perfectly normal. What you are doing is the equivalent of getting back on the horse that just threw you. Fear is a normal response to that situation. There is someone on these boards that has a sig line that goes: The purpose of fear is to warn you of danger, not make you afraid. Live by that.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. ergirl 0 #5 May 6, 2005 Yes, I have had xrays periodically and have been followed by an orthopedic surgeon..... Things appear to be healing well. I felt like I was healed about one month ago, but I knew that would not be smart of me. I work in the medical profession and know not to compromise my health to get back into the sport faster. Thank you for your concern though........I do plan to take a canopy control class soon.__________________________________________"Life is not measured by your number of breaths, but by the moments that take your breath away." cocheese 0 #6 May 7, 2005 If you can handle opening shock and a rough landing , then go for it.I always say: if you can jump off a chair, run fast, and get out of bed without much pain , then you might be alright.Maybe do a sub-terminal hop n pop first up high.Welcome Back Erin !Beach Boogie Babe of the year ! ergirl 0 #7 May 8, 2005 Chuck, I will take you up on that. I plan on jumping on the 21-22 if the weather is favorable. I dropped my rig off yesterday to have the reserve repacked.... The video sounds better than letting them know ahead of time.... They used to call me all of the time, when I would go jump prior to my injury, to make sure that I was safe. I look forward to seeing you in the sky soon!!! _____________________________________________"Life is not measured by your number of breaths, but by the moments that take your breath away."
