Shotgun 1 #1 May 9, 2005 My boy cat just bit me on the freakin' head! He was all pissed off and making weird noises at his sister for some reason, and I (stupidly) picked him up to take him away, and he turned around and bit me! Now I have a gash on my forehead! And I don't know what the hell is wrong with him.... My cats are nothing but spoiled rotten, so I can't imagine what has made him so upset!

Shotgun 1 #5 May 9, 2005 QuoteIs he fixed? Is the other one fixed? Yeah, they've both been fixed for a couple of years now... but they were acting sort of like cats do when they're mating... Very bizarre... but I think my head has finally quit bleeding. (Lesson to others: Don't pick up cats when they are acting strange!)

I put alcohol on it right away, but I know cat bites are bad... I'm just still in shock that one of my cats would bite me! That has never happened before... (though I guess it was my fault for trying to pick him up when he was distressed).

gweeks 1 #9 May 9, 2005 Definitely see a doctor! I got bit by a cat once on my hand. Twelve hours later my hand was big, red, puffy, and painful and you could see the infection spreading up my arm. I had to go to the hospital and get antibiotics by IV.

Paige 0 #11 May 9, 2005 I didn't know cats mouths were that bad. I got bit twice on the same finger and didn't go to a doctor. Of course I cleaned them out really well immediately following, I was in an art studio with good soap. Never had problems but for future reference, thanks for the info Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com

My cats don't seem to get upset enough to really bite me like that. Either that or I've made sure they know who the master of the house is... There have been times when I was holding one on my shoulder and they got startled or scared of something and shot off, leaving scratches or gashes on my chest or shoulders... jeez... I've seen enough conflicts between my cats that a simple yell is going to head them off. If one has really been bad, I grab them by the scruff of the neck (doesn't hurt them but they're totally submissive) and put them in a small bathroom for a while, or outside."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Shotgun 1 #15 May 9, 2005 So I woke up this morning with a small but somewhat painful lump on my head where he bit me. I think I'm going to skip class today and go see my doctor (I think it's ok, but just to be safe)... I am such an idiot... I've had cats most of my life and never had one bite me, and I know better than to pick them up when they are pissed off. Don't know what I was thinking... Anyhow, I'm gonna feel like a total dork going to work with a lump on my head tomorrow.

Zenister 0 #18 May 9, 2005 watch it... some places have stupid laws about reporting ALL animal bites to animal control..then they want to come in and check your cats... it could very well become more hassle than its worth because of bureaucratic bullshit____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. But I also don't want to risk getting an infection... I think that if they do want to check my cat, they'll find he's ok... It was completely my fault because of the way that I picked him up. Oh well, it's too late now because I've already left a message about it for my doctor... just waiting for her to call me back.
BillyVance 35 #21 May 9, 2005 You definitely should have the bite treated. Cats' mouths have hundreds of germs that can infect a wound badly if not treated. Having been scratched countless times in my life by family cats (I can be an sometimes ), running hydrogen peroxide over the wounds helps a lot, plus triple A antibiotic cream. However, every now and then, a pretty good scratch leaves a pretty cool looking scar... BillyVance 35 #23 May 9, 2005 Quote Your story is the exact reason I have dogs I refuse to own a dog. I have a nasty scar over my upper lip after one bit right through it when I was 6 years old. I didn't even do anything to the dog... just reached out slowly to pet him and he bit me. This was my mom's best friend's dog, a German Shepherd. Some dogs can kill too. Shotgun 1 #24 May 9, 2005 Yeah, you have to do something pretty stupid (like I did) to get a normal housecat to bite you. I almost got attacked by a pit bull once for no reason other than just walking down the street. (What kind of idiot lets their pit bull run around loose in the neighborhood???) And I had a scar on my hip for a long time where some hyper little weiner dog bit me (also unprovoked)... So I don't think one cat bite is going to turn me into a dog person.... Well, unless they end up having to amputate my head - then I might be pissed.
Shotgun 1 #25 May 9, 2005 Well I gave up on waiting to hear from my regular doctor's office and went to the urgent care center instead (because I was starting to freak out about it). The guy who looked at it said that it was already infected, so he cleaned it up, gave me a tetanus shot (since I couldn't remember when I last had one) and he gave me an antibiotic prescription (which I am now waiting for). He also told me to follow up with my regular doctor at the end of the week to make sure it's ok. Grr, now I feel like crap and I am really stressed out... My next three weeks are going to be so busy, and I don't have time for this! Ok, I'll quit whining now... Hopefully it will be funny in a few weeks...
