goofyjumper 0 #1 May 11, 2005 I always said that I would never go back into the military, but now that I got a degree and have a job I hate with a passion, and I realize it is not an easy world out there, and jobs are not easy to come by. The pay sucks and you have to kiss alot of ass to get anywhere. So I was looking at going back in as an officer now. The pay seems to be excelent and I would also get the extra previous enlisted pay added into the officer pay. Anybody out there gone through this.....any advise or thoughts?----------------- I love and Miss you so much Honey! Orfun #3 ~ Darla

bob.dino 1 #3 May 11, 2005 I know my view doesn't jibe with many on dz.com, but to me the fact that the military involves going places and killing people would be a fairly significant downside. As for the corporate world, what are you qualified in? Can you switch jobs and/or locations pretty easily?
BenHall 0 #4 May 11, 2005 If we already didn't have too many officers I'd say go AF, 4 month deployments and it's pretty much just a really well funded corporation.
Thanatos340 1 #5 May 11, 2005 Yea, But then who would look after Skinny?? Nope!! He is yours now and you cant get out of it by runing off to join the forign legion!! Cause then we would be stuck with him!!

Trust me I agree with you to a certain point, being in the military is not all about going and killing people. the 6 years I spent in the Navy, I never once came into any sort of situation like that, and really the majority of the military is just like a 7:30 - 4pm job and they go home at the end of the day. The exception is that yes they do travel and go on deployments, but man do we have some good stories! I do have pros and cons, man this would be a hard decision!----------------- I love and Miss you so much Honey! Orfun #3 ~ Darla

You know from day one, I never had a positive experience with the AF, they have always seemed kind of Stuck up! Except for Bob Holler of course, the best PJ ever! I remember on the bus to MEPS, this ignorant FUCK said to me (who was joining the AF) "do they allow women in the military?" I wanted to smack him, I will never forget that. EVen the AF recruiter was snotty, he just didn't seem interested in me, maybe it was me, who knows----------------- I love and Miss you so much Honey! jumpchikk 0 #9 May 11, 2005 What branch are you thinking about? I talked to an Army recruiter last fall very seriously, but decided that I did not want to go over to Iraq or even be a part of that. I love my country and I support our troops, but no way would I go over to that hell on Earth. I've also thought about the reserves. I find it very interesting that you want to go back especially being female and all. I talked to a lot of female friends about it last year and they all thought I was crazy. I now have a really good friend who is a JAG officer in the Army reserves and everyday he is telling to go for it.
Guest #10 May 11, 2005 My $.02 If you enjoy the lifestyle and want to join the military, join the military. If you want a better job, go get a better job. I think the two are mostly separate questions. You have a degree and some experience now, whatever your career is, you are more employable now that when you took your current job!! And as an officer, you shouldn't be in it half-heartedly either, you should lead the way. Good luck! Peace & blue skyes You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two. Stewie 0 #12 May 11, 2005 IMHO, the military offers a lot of intangibles that are attractive to some people. I never thought I would want to go back in, but I miss the caliber of people that you find in the armed forces. Sure, some parts of the job suck, but that is in all occupations. The finest men and women I have ever known I met while in the Army, and it is damn hard to develop that kind of bond with your coworkers in the civilian sector (cops and firemen are probably the exception). It's hard to find people that you can absolutely trust to do what the say and say what they mean. When I got out (the first time) at 22, I thought that being surrounded by 18 year old chicks at school would be great. Now I just want them to STFU. About hurting people, well, that's what is military is primarily for....to break things and people. Even though a small percentage is combat arms, almost every job has the end result of getting somebody in a position to hurt somebody else. Oh yeah...prior enlisted usually make pretty good officers. I'm sure you will too! ...sorry for rambling, I'm waxing nostalgic...here's a pic of PFC Stewie all Airborne and shit!"Fuck that. I'll take a good ass-pounding over a bj any day." -- pyrotech
tfelber 0 #13 May 11, 2005 Hey B, Are you still at the same company? I don't think I would have liked that job. What woulod you rather do? What if you get stationed somewhere ShrekMan can't handle, like the UK? or AZ? Hope you two are doing well. I haven't seen LG on any of the championship tables yet, is he starting to slow down? gmittar 0 #14 May 11, 2005 Honestly, if my religous beliefs didn't clash so heavily with military, I would've gone right outta high school and never looked back. Along those lines, IMO military is a calling. If it calls to you, go. |>.<| Seriously, W.T.F. mate?
skinnyshrek 0 #15 May 11, 2005 You know my feelings. Follow your heart not your desired pay. You are great with people and i think you'd make a great officer but keep the politics out of it... If you sign up do i get free jumps at military bases???lol And you must get stationed in Ga Anyways, you missed a great prty baby...lol Next week we have more coming so get your ass in the kitchen and make your diphttp://www.skydivethefarm.com do you realize that when you critisize people you dont know over the internet, you become part of a growing society of twats? ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?
LilZilla 2 #16 May 11, 2005 It's all on you and what you want to do. I know in the AF, officers move every 2 yrs., well most of them. The pay looks sweet as hell, coming from an E-3, and imagine the politics of being an officer would be a lot of fun. Yeah Not! Although, I must say, being in the AF is quit rewarding, even with all the bull shit that you have to go through, but hey thats life and you'll find that anywhere you go. You've been in so you know what to expect and should be used to it. Plus the time goes by sooooo fast when you're in. I bet your four or so years will go by fast too if you join back up again. Good luck and have fun dude. Umm.....I mean.......Sir.

blueskyserenity 0 #20 May 11, 2005 I can't believe I'm about to say this...But I agree with Shrek. Life is much too short to stay at a job you hate w/ a passion, especially if your eligible and willing to do something else and better. I like coconuts. hisgoofyness 0 #21 May 11, 2005 I am in the same boat as Rocky. I did four years in the Air Force enlisted and wanted to go back in as an officer after college. Alas, I am too fawking old!!! Now, I am too old and too fat!!! If given the chance, I would jump all over it. Follow your dreams my dear! Don't let anyone live your life for you! Take charge for YOU! Damn the torpedos; full speed ahead!!! If you do decide to go in, we will do our best to watch over Lee... He is a handful, but somewhat manageable I hope... Beerlight 0 #23 May 11, 2005 JUST DO IT........ I retired from the AF in Jan 04 and miss it everyday. Just yesterday as I was going outside, I reached for my cover and realized that I was just another civilian now... Yep, there's BS to be had, so what. Pay got much, much better after the freakin Clinton fiasco.

You can get yourself abused and shot at here without having to join up. Get another job. Walk. Leave. Quit. Live in a van at the DZ if you have to. Don't go back to anything you already left just because you hate what you're doing now. If you move on, opportunity will find you. If you move backwards, it will move on while you stagnate.
