Car Audio

Recommended Posts

Why did I go to the store yesterday to buy a couple of subs and a amp looking to spend about $500 to go into my Mitsubishi Endeavor and totally go over my budget? Why did I buy a Phoenix Gold 1200 watt amp to power two JL Audio 12w6's. Also why did I buy a MB Quart 100w X 4 amp to power 2 pairs of MB Quart 6.5" componets. Also why did I add an alarm, second Optima battery, cap, 2 gauge power wire, circuit breakers, a butt load of Dynamat to cover the whole friggin car? Why are they going to have my car for two days and hope they can get it finished in that amount of time? Does anyone know if this will sound good?:P sorry i'm excited and wanted to share.

All that money and you'd think you would have bought something good.:P
I like Quart, I'm running a pair of the Q-series components in my doors right now. Best $700 I've ever spent. I like JL subs, especially the W6v2 series....but why oh why did you ruin them by using a Phoenix Gold and MB Quart amp?

At least tell me it's not from PG's new crappy series. :|

MB Quart amps aren't too bad, just hideously overpriced for what you get.

I'll take Memphis, Elemental Designs, Kicker, and JL amps any day.:)

Yes... if the installers are worth a damn... It will sound great!!!

One thing most people don't realize about car audio...

Great equipment is only a part of the equation; a great installer is worth far more...

I used to install quite a bit in years past, but have never considered myself a pro...

I have a few installer friends that can take a Crunch (read cheap) subwoofer and make it sound like true audiophile quality!!! Granted that is harder to do with the mids and highs, but the point is still the same... Installers do not get near the credit as they should...

Congratulations on that set up!!! You bought the same brands I buy. I have a 10" 10W6 in a box (manufacturer's box that is), two Phoenix Gold amps, a set of Boston Acoustics components and a cap, all waiting on my ass to get busy... All I have done is put the Alpine deck in the dash...

I am a slacker...

My phoenix amps are from around 1995, when they were built solid as a rock! I like Fosgate or Kicker mono amps for subs. My favorite amp for mids and highs that I ever owned was a Hifonics... Lasted me over 10 years before it gave me the white smoke treatment...

That's why it's well worth someones time to go through, pull out the entire interior, and lay down dampening material *before* you do the install.

My Tiburon was a 4-day project just to lay down liquid deadener, deadening pads, expanding foam, and tightening down all clips and fasteners.

But, in the end, my Tiburon was quieter than a friend's Lexus and had zero rattles.B|

That is not pimped, that is quality equipment.

The dyanmat keeps the car from becoming a rattle trap.

There are audiophiles such as myself that arent building sytems for "boom" but for clarirty... You would just have to hear the difference to know what we are talking about.

Yup, old skool PG amps were incredible, as were the old Punch amps. I ran 15" Cerwin's off of one Punch 150 each, and that amp was so underrated it was phenomenal. I also really liked Precision Power's Art series amps, HiFonics, and I especially loved Linear Power.

Today though, I'm all about Memphis, Kicker, JL, and Elemental for power and speakers.

I'm about to upgrade my system to 2 Elemental NINE.1 amps, running two of their 13ov2's.

But here's a thread that shows what's in my system currently. :)

If you want those JL's to move, you'll push em like they are supposed to be pushed. You'll be happy you did. I used to have 6, 10" W6's in a compression chamber in a brand new 1997 mustang.

Dude, I still have a couple of old PPI art series amps...
They get a little warm, but they still crank out the wattage!

I have been out of the game for a while, and am considering dabbling once again... I may have to check out the Memphis and Elemental lines, they are new to me!

All the yo boys i have seen around here run audiobahn... looks like cheap crap to me...

I have a friend pushing diamond subs, do you know much about them?

The Xenon series is pretty nice. I still can't believe that PG put their name on the Octane series. They're not even made in the US.:(

The Titanium and Titanium Elite series have always been my favorites from PG.
