Are you a smoker?

Recommended Posts

Nope...never...I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer when I was a child. I just watched my father die horribly slowly from smoking related health issues. It took 6 years. He was miserable. I will never smoke. I do not want to put myself or my loved ones through that.

No I don't smoke. I strongly encourage anyone who does to quit. I recently lost someone close to me to lung cancer. I know it is personal choice but it's also awfully hard to think of losing someone else like this again.
Please feel free to reply to my posts and pm's, but only if you're smart enough to understand what they really mean.

I am a non smoker. I grew up with both parents smoking and they quit back in the 80's, my dad has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, my mom picked smoking back up and to this day, still smokes...

Damn... you'd think she would know better... [:/]

My mom smoked for damn near 35 years. Finally after months of debilitating hacking coughs, a doctor told her she would die within a year if she didn't stop. She quit cold turkey that day. That was almost 4 years ago. B| She breathes and gets around so much better. :)
I hope your mom reconsiders her habit...

It's rough. I feel like sometimes I'm the mom and she's the child. We went on a trip in my car this past weekend and I won't let her smoke in my car. Then she can't drive my car because it's a manual and so, her smoke breaks are cut down to one or two per trip. It upsets me, but I can't make her stop, it's her choice. She's older than my dad too and I figured when she saw what he was going through, it might make her think twice. (My dad's sister died of lung cancer back in 99, also a daily smoker)...

yep. a pack a day. nope dont wanna quit. we all dye from something. i doubt its gonna be the smokes that get it done. they take way to long.

They take a long time to start to kill you...at least a long time before you are diagnosed with a smoking-related illness. But then it can take forever....It took my dad 6 years to die. Six long and agonizing years where he could not walk fomr hi sdesk to the breakfast room (all on the same floor) without stopping. He had to stop going to baseball games because he could not walk to his seat....
