Perris: my second home

Recommended Posts

I just spent many (13?) days in Perris, and I finally got back this morning. Even though things like heat, desert and lack of car existed there, I had a great time hanging out with everyone (locals and visiting jumpers alike! :)
Weather stunk for the big-way camp, but it was good enough so that I could have a cutaway and reserve ride! :D Cpoxon (a fantastic roommate) got my main, so I'm forever in debt to him! :)
I did some tunnel time since I couldn't jump. A big thanks to diablopilot for being so brave and being the first one to take me freeflying in there! Also, a big thanks to Chris for all the coaching! I don't think I could ever be a tunnel rat (I didn't start skydiving to spend time inside...) but it is great for bad weather days! :P

If you ever want to get about four massage therapists rubbing your back, just have back spasms! :D Sunday during the big-way camp debrief, I started having back spasms, and they were very painful (especially since I'm a big wuss.) However, Cass is such an amazing massage therapist, and I highly recommend anyone going to Perris to get a massage from her!!! I had two!

The IHOP wasn't too shabby. It was clean, and if you have an awesome roommate like I did, it's even better! Just watch out for smelly people that might come in on your last few days.

The 100-ways were scary! That's a whole lot of people, but I was really glad I was on billvon's plane. He kept the troublemakers in line. I was so nervous, and they finally got me to smile! :D

I did some freeflying and bellydancing with Linny, and she is MUCHO fun! I almost stole her and brought her back with me.

Luke is the best bartender ever.

I failed in stealing Karen away from Remi. They both did an awesome job in the tunnel, and Remster can fly his booty off in there!

I think there's more, but I'm tired!

Thanks to everyone at Perris! :)

COngrats on the camp! Sounds like you had a great time and learned a lot of stuff!

That's an understatement! :D I learned weird stuff, too...non-flying stuff. I learned that six 100-ways in a day is much harder on my body than 6 regular jumps. If I ever did another 100-way event, I would get a hotel room for it, and I would also eat healthy food.

Winter sucks too. You should get SDC or the likes to set up a recirculating tunnel so there would be no "off season" (so to speak). Not to mention it would give me an excuse to go home over the holidays:D

Sounds like you had an amazing time Val! Congrats on all your fun and jumpin accomplishments this year:)

That early-to-bed-early-to-rise thing really helps me in my non-extensive bigway experience. But I was still blasted after just 5 jumps on the last day of the camp the previous weekend.

:D The "off season" keeps me from getting burnt out on skydiving. One thing I am now very sure of is that I could never live in the sport, nor spend that much time in it. The tunnel was cool, and I did a lot of it out there, but that's more than anything because I was stuck on a dropzone with one! :D I could see myself easily getting burnt out on the tunnel....looking at the exact same ugly net all day long!!! But, that's what's cool about the sport. Some people are into it...some people aren't! :)
And, Wendy, even when I went to bed early, I woke up feeling like crap!!! :D I have a feeling I'll finally sleep well being in my own bed tonight!!!!

I know what you mean about an off season. I don't know how some of these guys do it :S I'd loose my mind :S

Indeed, to each his own. Could not agree more.

I'm not sure on the tourists at Perris, but the ones in Orlando are pretty COLORFUL to say the least :D:D They aren't like skydiving scenery at all but it provides many laughs. You should see some of the outfits:D:D:D

Again Val, congrats on all your JFTC stuff and belly big way success!

I can't wait to get out to Perris to fly in their tunnel.

You need to drink more water when you are out here. Lots more.
Many out-of-towners do not drink enough water. They get headaches and muscle cramps. The prevention is to drink LOTS of water (or gatorade) - not soda pop.

Out here, sweat evaporates very quickly and people do not realize how much water they are losing. I come from the midwest - Chicago area - the biggest adjustment was drinking LOTS of water all day long.

The high altitude and O2 also dehydrates you. Drink more water when doing high altitude jumps.

I wasn't even on the load.

This might also be useful too.

VAL! I didn't get to say bye to you!!

BTW you are such a great dancer! I think we danced all night together... I was a little too drunk to shimmy, but it was all SOOOOOOOO FUN!..... I'll never hear 70's music the same again.. haha

and you bringing your belly dancing stuff into the bombshelter was cool as hell. Dancing in the bombshelter with a veil, now that's out of the ordinary~!

Come back soon... here are my few pics from that night. I definitely didn't have my camera out enough

YAY for meeting Val! :)

Lindsey!!! You are so much fun!!! It was great hanging out with you! We'll have to do that again in September!

Thanks for the tips, Jan. I did drink a TON of water (about 80 ounces a day), but I think the salty food wasn't helping....
