question about Vicodin

Recommended Posts

Say hi to the pink and purple elephants for me! I miss them...;)

haha just kiddin... I have taken Vicoden just a few times, one of them being for my wisdon teeth removal. The vicoden subdued the pain a little but did not have any other affects I was aware of. Maybe they affect me less or differently than others and basically thought of it as a strong advil...

Vicodin puts me on my ass.

Besure to eat (if you're supposed to) or you might get an upset stomach. Even then I would still sometimes have an upset stomach.

Basically I don't like taking them, even when I have to (like after my surgery) since it puts me in this weird haze and pretty much ruins my ability to concentrate. It does do a serious number on pain though.

Expect to feel a bit loopy. It never kills the pain for me, just dulls it a bit and makes me not care quite as much.

Be sure to eat something with it - I know that's hard to do with mouth pain but it's really important.

And don't exceed the dosages on the bottle. I did that once and paid for it, on my knees in front of the toilet. :S

I took vicodin when I got my wisdom teeth pulled, and it did very little. I had dry sockets that hurt pretty intensely. If anything it lessened the pain a bit, but no other effects. I was taking about 750mg every 4 hours. If the pain is pretty bad, you should be fine.

Now taking lots of vicodin without pain + drinking or whatever, you'll notice some changes...

We're here for a good time, not a long time.

Well, when I had surgery - it did not kill the pain, but just knocked me out so I did not care about the pain. :P They stitched the wound open so the infection could work its way out as it scared over. The doctor told me to take up to X amount, but start slow... Well, the pain was so bad I tried to start slow... About an hour passed and I could not take it... Then, well, I went for the gold and maxed out... Woke up every 8 hours and "repeated" until the pain went down. Fun times....

I've never taken it and my dentist prescribed it to me for the pain in my jaw (wisdom tooth infection).

What should I expect?

/end stupid question

I'm sure everyone reacts differently, but they make me nauseated. Unless the pain is really bad, I'd rather hurt than take it.

Depends on the dosage.....
It works great when prescribed correctly or well at least at a high dose.....
I was on percoset for a few months(GOOD STUFF) and then the doc put me on vicodin. It works great but you'll build a tolerance very fast.....
use it for what it's for..... feel no pain......

I got vicodin for my wisdom teeth extraction. All four at once. The dentist gave me one before I got out of the chair and I went straight to the pharmacy to fill the scrip. They will keep the pain at bay. It is not as good once the pain kicks in and you have to fight it back. Boy can it constipate you. :( I followed the dentist's instructions exactly on cold packs to keep the swelling down, medication/food on the appointed time, and salt water rinses for dry socket. No infection and only minor discomfort. My dentist knew his shit.

Hope you feel better.

First time I had to take it, it made my brain not care that my body was in pain. :S Second time I had to take it, it did nothing at all for me.

(Your mileage may vary)

1) After a dental extraction I chatted up my folks all afternoon, feeling great, no pain, on 500s about three hours apart, I'm 190 lbs
2) I had just a little food before the procedure
3) Take them before the local wears off

I got a whole bottle but only took a few.

You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.

its been my experience that all vicoden does is make you not care that your in pain... as for dosage or eating everyone is different ... be careful at first, but my suggestion is to get your doc to change the script to darvocet... now that takes care of the pain..

I am a bit of a pain expert.. well I used to be, I had surgery and got my back fixed .. over 1 year pain free and drug free.

Chelle, I hope all is well , its been a while since we talked last ,

another side effect of Vicodin is an inability to piss for several hours - no matter HOW badly you need to. i had a scrip when i slipped a disc, and while ymmv for me it didnt dull the pain, it just made me not care. i will take morphine over it any day of the week.:S

As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

I will second that....
(i swear i looked like a kid that had just lost his puppy when they took my morphine pump away.....)
It's funny i really never had any bad side effects from the vicodin, well no worse than the heavier stuff i was on......

vicodin/hydrocodone rocks! but bear in mind that it is contains acetominophen, usually about 325mg per tab. over 5000mg a day can kill your liver. (it's easier to exceed this limit than you think, been there)

it's a lousy pain killer, but an excellent mood enhancer. so save the pills for recreational use and take tylenol for the pain. haha
