AggieDave 6 #1 May 25, 2004 Anyone keeping up with the news surrounding this remake? Tim Burton is directing, Johnny Depp is playing Wonka and someone I've never heard of, Freddie Highmore, is playing Charlie Bucket. I'm not sure about this, since I love the 1971 version with Gene Wilder, then again, Gene Wilder is one hell of an actor and plays that sort of part really well. I wonder if they'll have similar Ompa Loompas in this movie?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
skybytch 273 #2 May 25, 2004 QuoteTim Burton is directing Nightmare before Xmas is one of my favorite movies of all time. Burton is twisted. Willy Wonka was one of my favorite books as a kid; I liked the book better than the movie though (Gene Wilder always gave me the willies... dunno why...). Any idea when it'll be out? AggieDave 6 #3 May 25, 2004 From what I've read, its going or has gone into production this month and should be out for summer or fall of 2005. I'm with you, Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favorites and not just because it had an absolutely sick opening scene with a flaming jack-o-lantern on jack's head...pumpkins kick ass.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." quade 4 #4 May 25, 2004 One thing is almost certain, the music will probably be a hell of a lot better. I wonder if Elfman is attached. I gotta look that up. Hold on. Yep, the standard Burton crew seems to be working. Ought to kick ass. As much as people credit Burton for Nightmare, it was, in my opinion, Elfman that carried it as modern opera. AggieDave 6 #5 May 25, 2004 QuoteAs much as people credit Burton for Nightmare, it was, in my opinion, Elfman that carried it as modern opera I've got to agree with that, the music is really good in Nightmare. Good enough that I listen to it fairly regularly outside of the movie. Quote One thing is almost certain, the music will probably be a hell of a lot better. There are a few things about the 1971 Wonka that made it special, though, including the simple tunes that the Ompas sang, special enough that the songs themselves are apart of pop-culture even now, over 30 years later.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ChrisL 2 #6 May 25, 2004 I loved this book when I was a kid. I was always disappointed with the movie because they changed a lot of the things that happened. I also dont think it should have been a musical. Nobody did any song and dance routines in the book. Johnny Depp is an incredibly versatile actor. I think he will do Willy Wonka justice. I hope that Tim Burton sticks with the book. I love to read so I have usually read the book long before the movie comes out. When the movie deviates in any serious detail its always very disappointing.__ My mighty steed
meltdown 0 #7 May 25, 2004 That's a tough one to do justice, but if anyone can pull it off it'll be Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. As for the oompa loompas, they may too politically incorrect.

Dagny 0 #11 May 17, 2005 Just bringing back an old thread......since I just saw the preview for the remake on tv tonight!!! I'm really excited about the remake. I think it's mostly because I have so much admiration for Johnny Depp's acting. I can't even think of another actor who could do the Willie Wonka role justice. Anyway, rock on....it comes out in July, I think.Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

Then you'll be happy to hear that I saw a preview last night at the theater for a new Burton film...."Corpse Bride". It looks just like Nightmare Before Xmas, and it stars (well, the voice and the character resembles him) Johnny Depp. I guess it's about a dude who's about to be married and his dead bride comes back or something. I dunno but it looks great!! Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.

lawrocket 3 #15 May 17, 2005 QuoteI'm sooo exciting for this movie. should be very interesting with the darker visuals and imagery I actually found the original movie to be failry dark. I don't think it was the most light and cheery of movies. With Tim Burton doign it, heck, it may be downright fearful! My wife is hotter than your wife. BillyVance 35 #18 May 17, 2005 For some reason, Johnny Depp does a great acting job when he works with child actors... I enjoyed the original movie as well... But if there's a remake that I'd rather see, it's The Longest Yard, with Adam Sandler reprising Burt Reynold's character Crewe... Every one of the kids (except for Charlie) has some vice (gluttony, excesive gum-chewing, TV watching, being a spoiled brat) and after each one is "dealt with" the Oompa Loompas sing a song about it. go back & re-read the book.
