Dagny 0 #1 May 16, 2005 Okay, so I'm moving to the other coast...of Florida, that is, next month. I am completely unprepared to move and just started calling places today to get quotes on rental trucks and day labor to help me load the damn thing and even full-service movers. It is CRAZY EXPENSIVE to move if you need help! I forgot how much it cost... The sad thing is that I live on the third floor of my apartment complex and there is no elevator. Moving in was a total bitch and I'm dreading the prospect of moving out. I don't have a lot of people for help here because everyone is busy with work. I don't really have a lot of stuff, though...just my bed and some bookshelves and an entertainment center are the bulk of it all. Estimates I've gotten: $200 for two men to load a uhaul truck for one hour $320 for a rental truck one way (not including mileage or gas, I think) $820 for those two men to load their truck and drive it to the Tampa area for me I'm freakin' because I don't even know where I'm going to live and I don't have a ton of money... Does anyone have any advice on how to move for less? I've considered just filling my car and making a few trips, but a 4 hour drive adds up in gas money. HELP me because I seriously think it would be a great idea to light the whole thing up and just take the insurance money and start over. Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali
Lindsey 0 #2 May 16, 2005 Friends..... I just helped a friend move all of her stuff for nothing....NADA. She had to rent the u-haul though. Tomorrow she's bringing steaks to my house, and we're cooking on the grill. I'm buying the beer. Grab a good buddy. It's definately the way to go. Peace~ linz
AggieDave 6 #3 May 16, 2005 Well, whats worked before is a handful of cases of beer, possibly some liquor and some skydivers. You would need to probably rent a u-haul type truck, since most folks aren't motivated to hear "hey, since you have a truck will you help me move?"--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Shell666 0 #4 May 16, 2005 If you don' t have a ton of large stuff, you might want to check into renting a small U-Haul trailer (if your car can tow one). They're considerably cheaper than U-Haul trucks and if you don't have a lot of stuff, it would probably work. Good luck with the move ... Kris 0 #5 May 16, 2005 Yup, it's all about friends and beer at this point. I just checked U-Haul's website, and it looks like the first 305 miles are free on a 1-way in-FL move, so you should be covered there. If you use a service to pack up your things, be careful who you pick. Make sure they're insured and bonded in case they happen to damage any of your belongings. Now, while all this chaos is going on, you need to be scouting places to live *THIS* weekend. Hop in your Jeep and hit Tampa....and don't stop until you've found something you love. Because you need to start the process of getting your utilities transferred quickly since you're coming into the crunch time now. Oh, and you have to do all this while also studying for your medical board exams, too. *passing you some Oatmeal Cookie Chunk and a valium* If you need a hand, let me know. It's not like I need an excuse to get out to FL anyway.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Odds are I will have some goood drugs starting friday. No need for tequila for a bit. And as for the sushi..I had a hilarious thought...me trying to eat sushi with chopsticks left handed Girl, if Kris and I both showed up nothing would get done, we would be laughing to hard. I will just have to stay home.... Though I might be out of work by then But being serious, if there is stuff you can replace cheeply, that would require movers, then do it. Otherwise if you cant find some big strong guys to help you with beer bribe, go ahead with trying to get them to load and unload. I have had to do that several times...course my move wasnt that far...She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
Dagny 0 #10 May 16, 2005 Oh, that plan is even better! How about a boogie at my house and we can drink all my liquor (so I don't have to pack it, ya know, one less thing) and we'll go get sushi at this kick-ass little place I know and we'll just forget about all this crazy moving talk! Until then, I'm sooooo getting a big spoon and my little pint of ice cream from the freezer and pretending like this doesn't exist for a little while. And, as far as dream places in the tampa area, surely I can find something small and inexpensive with a screened in patio and a beach view, right? Right? Good times, they are a-comin'!Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

Stacy 0 #14 May 17, 2005 let me know what day you need help in largo/tampa. I can be there to help you out if it's not the weekend dad is visiting. I may be able to convince galen to help too. start looking for apartments ASAP. The rental market over here is NUTS, all the apartment complexes are converting to condos so is a scramble for rental properties!! Check the tampa tribune on line, sometimes you can find better deals through private renters. also check rent.net and apartments.com for some ideas, call and make appointments for the weekend.
