Bolas 5 #26 May 18, 2005 QuoteI use a mystical, but very effective style which involves a lot of running away really fast. It's called Fu Koff. No that's called Run Fu. I am a master of this. If anyone tries anything with me I run as fast as I can the other way screaming like a little girl. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
sistaluv 0 #27 May 18, 2005 Well I took 7years of Waido-kai karate and I loved every minute of it. It teaches you self defense, keeps you in good shape, and tests your abilities with tournaments which are really fun, kinda like the movie karate kid. I'm not as scared as i would of been if i never had this discipline. Confidence scares others away and make you focused on what you need to do. Thats my personal opinion. Its better to know what to do and not have to do it rather to do it to bully someone. Travman 6 #28 May 18, 2005 QuoteIn my experience it is a good idea to be well rounded in several different fighting styles but when it comes right down to it Ju Jitsu almost always wins. Fighting rarely takes place "toe to toe". Sooner than later the fight will go to the ground usually in the first few seconds. If your opponent lacks ground skills, the fight is as good as over. Some one proficent only in Kung fu, Karate or some other standing art, will find that all of their skills become null and void the moment they are on the ground. ok so you take a guy to the ground and then his mates come and stomp on you why you try to grapple with him. I understand Ju Jitstu is a very effective style, but it is certainly not always practical to take someone to the ground. I do kung fu and we do learn grappling and taking people down from the ground, but we are told to never go to the ground unless you have to.

Peej 0 #30 May 19, 2005 QuoteKung fu is well rounded. I like Tai Chi as well. The two together are very complementary. Agreed. My school teaches the Northern Long Fist and Hong Family Fist (Southern Styles), we get a nice mix of sparring, forms and weapons. I also add Chi Gung (meditational breathing) to the mix, it helps my training immensely. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
gordy 0 #31 May 19, 2005 That did make me laugh....although true in some circumstances. It is common sense, if your going to kick someone in the head, put them on the ground first, otherwise to quote Bruce Lee "kicking someone in the head is about as useful as punching them in the foot." To chip in on the ground fighting / stand up debate, I would say there is a time and a place for both, and its a necessity to be comfortable in both situations. But I would avoid going to the ground as much as possible out in the street, as for example it is very easy if you go to the ground for mates of your attacker etc to jump in, something they may be more reluctant to do while standing, it is also harder to escape from that position, and obviously depending on the situation that should be the first thing your thinking, albeit you can't do that if your attacked in your house etc...
