Traveling with a Rig.

I know that you can bring your rig on board a plane as a carry on. I want to board the plane with my carry on luggage as well. So here are my question:

If I carry on my rig on the plane, should it be in my gear bag or can I lug it on the plane like a backpack and store it under the seat when I'm in the plane?

I want both the carry on and rig on the plane at the same time. However, I realize that some airlines only allow you to have one carry on and maybe a backpack that you can store underneath the seat. Please let me know what you think.

I know of a few ppl who take their gear with them as carry ons but I think that the gear bag might be alittle too big. You could always call in advance, but I'm sure they'd just ask to see the size of the bag.

If you get a BASE stash bag, you will find this smaller than a normal skydive rig bag, and it will take your rig and other bits and pieces in it. This is how I carry my rig on, and it means you then only have one piece of hand luggage.
