BlindBrick 0 #1 May 23, 2005 On my second jump yesterday I made a low turn and compounded the error by flaring late. The result was a long skid through some tall grass. Because I was wearing shorts, I got an abrasion that begins at my left knee and goes up to about midthigh. i also got so scrapes on my other knee and my arms. It's now thirteen hours later and on the other areas, the redness has turned a light pink and they are cool to the touch. The injured area on my left thing, OTOH, is still vividly red and hot to the touch. I thought maybe I just got that leg warmer, but the skin beyond the wound is cool to the touch. i've never had this type of injury before, so I am curious if I might have just abraded that area a little more than the others or if this is the onset of an infection. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." freeflir29 0 #2 May 23, 2005 Don't know but it's ALWAYS a good idea to give it a general dousing of Hydrogen Peroxide at least twice daily for the next 3-5 days. Infections are easier to get rid of if you take care of it early.

antifnsocial 0 #4 May 23, 2005 Well, I have never personally seen your thing so I wouldn't know how much area it covers. Seriously, if you're worried see the Doc. Unless you'd preferDr. freeflir29 and Dr. Zee. I am sure their medical licenses are quite valid. Please feel free to reply to my posts and pm's, but only if you're smart enough to understand what they really mean.

I gave myself a bad case of swoop rash on my left shin last year and because i've always believed strongly in disinfection i reepeatedly poured something called Merthiolate (Looks like Iodine but stings like Peroxide) on the wound, it dried it out pretty quickly but has made it scar quite badly. I was told that washing it thoroughly and using something like Neosporin would have prevented the scarring. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
lawrocket 3 #6 May 23, 2005 Scrapes are bad news. Since they don't really bleed, but stay nice, warm and moist, they have an increased risk of infection. Keep that dern thing clean, disinfected and dry. My wife is hotter than your wife.
jraf 0 #7 May 23, 2005 If in doubt, you can always amputate the infected limb. I strongly suggest disinfecting with Jack Daniels and then using a circular saw or an electric hedge trimmer.jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. Muff #3275
dunesurfer 0 #8 May 23, 2005 That injury should be treated the same as "road rash" from a fall on the asphalt. Have it scrubbed clean with betadine as soon as possible, preferrably the same day you get the wound. You may be able to do it yourself, but I have found it easier to bite down on a towel while someone else scrubs out the dirt. I have 6 streetbike accidents to my credit, so I am familiar with the drill for this in ER. (I was once 23 and bullet proof)

Midthigh, I meant mid-thigh. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."
Frenchy68 0 #10 May 23, 2005 I had a patient once who had the same symptoms, and we had to amputate the left ear. In your case though, I would probably stick with antibiotics. But in the future, I would recommend chosing your swapping swooping partners more carefully, and use protection. I hope this was helpful. Hey I've got my own swoop road rash to deal with in my right forearm this morning. So if it does get infected (I'm thinking it won't right now), I too will need some Jack and a saw.
