psw097 0 #26 May 26, 2005 Boogie might get upgraded to a Ruffwear Palisades sometime this year. It has built-in water bladders and looks more comfy. My puppy gets the hand-me-downs once he's calmed down some.

skycat 0 #29 May 26, 2005 QuoteGlad my old pack is seeing some trail time. I'm thinking of getting a new ultralite pack to do Friday night over nighters, sprint in after work Friday, be out by 10 or 11 and on my way to get my altitude fix. I figure I can still do 5-6 miles in the dark and another 5-7 that early in the morning. Backpacking is a blast Damn if I would have known you were looking for a super light pack I would have hooked you up at the GoLite warehouse sale. Derek got a really sweet one for around 50% off.Fly it like you stole it!

psw097 0 #31 May 26, 2005 The jetboil has a built-in coffee press and I get grumpy without coffee - that was enough reason for me right there. Plus, one fuel can lasts and lasts and lasts with the jetboil. I bought myself a Gregory Lassen this year - great pack. But its larger, a bit heavy and a top loader - exactly what you don't want. PhreeZone 20 #32 May 26, 2005 Yeah, I discovered the joys of night hiking last time out and I'd like to do it again... but with out hauling an old external frame pack and a 3 person tent for myself Going to go the tarp route with an ultralite pack, figure I should be able to cover at least 5-7 at night without too much wear and tear on myself. Luckly all the trails I hit are well traveled during the day so they are well maintained too.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

We used one last winter at the top of the North Pole at A-Basin in a blizzard to drink tea! I think it's the most efficient stove design I have ever seen. skybytch 273 #34 May 26, 2005 QuoteGoing to go the tarp route with an ultralite pack If you're going ultralite, you need the Jetboil! The small fuel bottle and burner unit store inside the cup so it takes up very little space, it's lighter than my Whisperlite and doesn't require a lighter or matches. Now where did Mary put hers? Hmmm....
mnealtx 0 #35 May 26, 2005 QuoteMike, I think you used the right word in your post. Trying to figure out the GPS All I can say about that (if it's a Garmin) is that the "mark" button is your friend... turn it on at the trailhead, give a couple moments to lock in. Press mark and make a label for it. Start walking. If you leave the trail, or see something interesting, repeat the mark/label actions. Ends up quicker than pulling out the map, shooting your azimuths, finding your acetate marker, making a label, re-folding the map...etc... Or mark the trail with dog biscuits! Regardless, looks like y'all had a fun time - I need to quit reading about everyone's plans in here... in the last month I've looked at camping equipment, trucks, travel trailers, motorcycles.... Oh well... keeps me from being TOO bored at work!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
