Beer Backpacking Trip -or- I slept with Flyangel2

Recommended Posts

I think I've found a new addiction... and it's even healthy!

Went for my first ever overnight hike yesterday and today. Mary, my roomie Kim, Mary's dog Rose, my dog Molly and I did the Summit Springs trail in Snow Mountain Wilderness. We hiked a little over 2 miles (1000 feet altitude gain), set up camp, explored the summit area, spent the night and hiked out this morning.

It was a perfect first backpacking trip - for me, Molly and Kim. We had sooo much fun!

I covet Mary's JetBoil.

Here's some pics...

"start" - the girls at the trailhead

"here" - where we were going

"hmmm" - intrepid explorers figuring things out

"where" - intrepid explorers can't figure it out

"there" - I have no idea where we are either

"angel" - someone dared someone to make a snow angel...

"couchpotato" - who says you can't be a couch potato in the wilderness?

"maryglacier" - The Glacier at Big Rock, starring Flyangel2

"mymeadow" - yes, this is my meadow. Go away now.

"ontrail" - no, the packs aren't heavy

Glad my old pack is seeing some trail time. I'm thinking of getting a new ultralite pack to do Friday night over nighters, sprint in after work Friday, be out by 10 or 11 and on my way to get my altitude fix. I figure I can still do 5-6 miles in the dark and another 5-7 that early in the morning.

Backpacking is a blast B|

The bytch hogged all the room in the tent

I wasn't hogging the tent. I was trying to get you the hell off me. >:(

But you were keeping me warm.

Take me with you next time!

We are looking for more people to hike with. When you're ready you're more than welcome to come along. :)
Angela, the trailhead where we were is about a 3-4 hour drive from where you'll be living. There's lots of good hiking in northern California, if you liked the scenery in the pics you're gonna love it out here.

Erk, the pack (and all that other gear I got two years ago) was very happy to finally get out on the trail. Got a strange feeling that it's going to see many more trails before the summer is over.

Mike, I'm sure I'd covet Mar's GPS if I'd gotten a chance to play with it. I thnk she knew better than to let me near it. :D

I just never got into the whole Jetboil thing. I like my SimmerLite. It makes hot water for a group or for multiple purposes fast enough and packs as small as I want it to. benifit is that I can run Gas, white gas or K1 through it and it burns them all.

Anyone got any suggestions for a 2500-3500 cui internal packs? I want something comfy, but lite. Perfer panel load over top loading.
