today totally sucks now.

Recommended Posts

it's friday, it's sunny, but it sucks. just had to have one of our fuzzy friends put down. :(

he was the friendliest of our ferrets, but started having problems yesterday. he was pretty sluggish in the morning, and by afternoon he couldn't walk. i took him to the vet who told us he was paralyzed from the neck down. no spinal injury that he could find, but he couldn't move. gave him a shot of steroids to see if it helped and told us to call him back in the morning, but he only gave him a 10% chance of recovery. this morning he got up and tried to walk but fell over. back to the vet. he said it was a good sign and gave him another shot, along with some pills and an antibiotic. i dropped him at home with my step son and went back to work. about half an hour later he started having convulsions, so back home, back to the vet. by this time he was totally limp, including his head, total paralysis. he figured it might be menengitis or a clot that had moved to his brain. no real hope of recovery, so we had to put him down.

i'll going to miss the little fart.

I'll bet you are going to miss him.
Just looking at him; he's totally comfortable with his people, and knows that they'll do the right thing for him.
It sucks when that's the right thing, doesn't it?

:( I hate these threads. Sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is like losing a best friend. Except this friend doesn't borrow money or steal you're beer.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

thanks for the kind thoughts and words. i know that there are people who think 'it's just an animal, get over it'. i will, but when you like animals, they really become family members. we spent 4 1/2 years with simon and he will be sorely missed.

a lot of people are creeped out by ferrets, but those that have them know how funny and personable they are. we have three others, and they all have very distinct personalities. simon was the laid back one who would wander over, flop on his back at your feet and wait to be picked up. he was the one who figured out how to open kitchen drawers and climb to the top one from inside the cabinet, then open it from inside to get on the counter. it took quite a bit of work to 'ferret-proof' the house, mostly on account of him.

it's not like losing a child, sibling, spouse or parent, but it's close.

I had a dream last night that I owned a ferret. He was cool. I kept him in a little box and for some reason this lady that lives below me decided to cut a whole in her ceiling cause it was leaking...so he kept trying to jump down to her apartment instead, but I had to keep him locked up for a couple days til they fixed the hole in my floor....

Man..that was a cool dream.
