Insuring an engagement ring.

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any tips on ensuring an engagement ring? I called a local farmers guy and he said best practice is to add it to your home insurance or renters insurance. Unfortunately my soon to be fiancé controls the renters insurance and hell I don’t even know who it’s through or anything (just know that my rigs are covered). So I don’t want to jeopardize the surprise by trying to prod the information out of her.

I looked at Jewelers Mutual which looks great however will have an annual rate of almost 90 dollars. I will spend it no problem but wouldn’t mind finding something cheaper with the same coverage (theft, damage, loss).

Any tips experiences would rock

Thanks

Neilp

we have a jewellery rider on our house insurance to cover my wife's engagement ring, i imagine you could do the same with renter's insurance. just find a plicy paper or something to get the company, call the agent and explain the situation. i'm sure they'll play along. i'm assuming of course that you'll be giving it to her soon, if it needs to be kept somewhere safe until then, a safe deposit box is cheap insurance.

Put a floater on your renter's insurance or your home owners insurance. If you don't have either of these, you really really really NEED to.

Also, insure for what it apprases for, not what you paid for it.

My wife's ring is insured through Jewelers Mutual. The thing I like about them is that they only do jewelery and insure the actual ring and not just the amount it is worth. I am quite certain that it would be beneficial to have insurance through them if the ring was ever lost or stolen or the stone fell out or something. I would imagin there would be much more red tape and hassle to get it replaced through renters or home owners insurance.
