Douva 0 #1 June 5, 2005 So, anybody here got any leads on finding a passable apartment in L.A. without selling a kidney? I'd prefer something in The Valley (Burbank area), but I'll take anything. Maybe I should move to New York City for a year before moving to L.A. so that the L.A. apartments will actually look big and cheap.I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. racer42 0 #2 June 5, 2005 Shop and compare. I hear Marin County is pretty pricey. Try central Tokyo or maybe London. That should make you feel better. But I didn't realize how absurd it is until I really started shopping. Does Perris have a limit on how long you can stay in the IHOP? I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. VanillaSkyGirl 6 #7 June 5, 2005 I remember a few years ago, it seemed that many student/up and coming/new or independent film people lived in the Silverlake area. Many times, a group of them would pay rent on a large home for very reasonable prices. It worked well because many times the film shoots would be on location, and they were seldom home at the same hours. I'm not sure if it's still that way, but you may want to look for a roommate in that area. Chances are high that it's someone in the industry that you are interested in, and it's good to be around more industry folk in order to have more contacts. There are also many industry folks in Studio City, Hancock Park, LA (in general), Hollywood (of course, but it's disgusting in Hollywood), West LA, Bevery Hills, the westside...like Santa Monica or Westwood, the area by the Grove, etc. Good luck! Nightingale 0 #8 June 5, 2005 Look on the bulletin boards of local universities (LMU, USC, UCLA, CSUN). A lot of people in LA have duplexes and rent one out. Also, a lot of times there's notices up for rooms to rent, and those can be around $500. Another good place to look is around Venice. There are a lot of older apartments there that are cheaper, but definitely not as nice as others in the area. If work doesn't require you to be in the LA area, the further inland you go, the cheaper it gets.

And as tempting as the "hot cousin" offer is, I'm really trying to stay OUT of trouble for a while. I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names.
