Everybody makes mistakes, and everybody's mistakes are different.
I was PISSSED on my 11th jump because I made my first error. In fact, windcatcher was on-site for it.
Excuse the copypaste, but here's the story:
__________
I didn't get my helmet's chin strap done up all the way on my 2nd jump off the day, so it was pulling and trying to come off most of the jump, and when I threw the PC (first jump on a throwout rig!) it finally came off. I looked up and watched it go, and thought a couple seconds later "Shit, I should have fabric by now", turns out I was so distracted by the helmet fiasco, I never let go of the PC! Tossed it, and got a clean opening..
________
Was it a minor mistake? Sure. Did I learn from it nonetheless? Yup.

I'd take him up on this Jason. Roy has a TON of experience with making mistakes. You can learn a lot about making mistakes from him.

It all about 'heart'. It's about gettin' up when you've fallen. It's all about how you handle it and what you want out of it and goin after it. You'll be fine.

Boy....we have known each other wayy too long
, but out of all the silly mistakes I have made in this sport, I can honestly say I havent ever created my own mal,
like say......hooking up a toggle wrong so that the brake line flys off as soon as I pull it off the riser.... or something like that
now THAT would be a silly mistake...

They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
What EXACTLY did you do? I think part of the story is missing. If you didn't hit the formation you were docking on then there shouldn't be a problem, you know you need to slow down sooner.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
"Mal" seems like such a strong word Roy, given that I've landed that canopy on rears on numerous occasions. I guess I should defer to you on this subject though, given you outnumber me in experience with almost every type of mal imaginable. How many reserve rides do you have now?

I put the brakes on to late and just barley missed her. I was suprised by my speed and the vid showed me trying to compensate for my overspeed about 30 feet before her although I should have cupped air instead of just getting big. Definatley all my fault but I gurantee I will work on that! Besides that the dive went great.

This is a dangerous sport, so you have to keep that in mind if an instructor or DZO yells at you; they usually just have your best interests at heart. And remember: we all make mistakes, and we need to learn from them.
Mother to the cutest little thing in the world...
