Best canopy/line combination out there for us old, arthritic and/or previously broken folks.
DrewEckhardt 0 #27 January 3, 2009 QuoteI am 51 6'3" 225, have had my knees cut on 11 times, and have degen disc disorder. I wake up every morning feeling and acting like a kid, but I like to lie to myself. My problem is that landing is starting to hurt, and I need a new main. I am honestly at a loss as to what to buy. I probably have no more than 500 jumps left in me. 3 months ago I broke down and pulled out a rig I had made for my son. the main is a PD190 with only about 80 jumps on it. The landings are fine, but its a dog. everthing else I own is just plain not big enough anymore. so help me out. what should I buy? You want to have a competant canopy coach evaluate your landing technique (as in some one like Brian Germain or Scott Miller, not the random person who'se getting people through their A-license card). Most skydivers don't manage their energy and flare nearly as well as they could. With jumpers who aren't much worse off physically than average under canopies that aren't much smaller than average this doesn't have any practical effect. Get a small enough parachute and/or become creaky enough and it's an issue. With 200 pounds of exit weight, an 8000 foot density altitude, and no wind you can still stop a modern 105 square foot canopy in a few steps with good technique. The same thing applies to larger canopies with friendlier atmospheric conditions.
erdnarob 1 #28 January 4, 2009 The Katana 190 doesn't exist yet as far as I know.Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.
RMURRAY 1 #29 January 4, 2009 QuoteThe firebolt wasnt on my list. Anyone here jump it and at what WL. you have a ton of jumps but I would still say call Nancy at (386) 734-5867 and explain your situation. She will get you a canopy to try out in a hurry...
