Experience & Judgement

A flight instructor told me this a long time ago. I'm finding its true in more than just flying.



"Good Judgement comes from Experience.
Experience comes from Bad Judgement."



Just a thought for today.

And bad judgement can lead you to accidently hurting or killing your friend(s) on a skydive, not just yourself.

I agree only that experience is half of good judgment.. For example, I was not experienced with sex when I lost my virginity. Yet, I still managed to take precautions to avoid any bad stuff from happening. These precautions were good judgment, and not based on any past experiences with the clap.

Good judgment comes mostly from learning of others's bad judgment. There are thousands of skydivers who never hooked in. How many lives and bones have been saved because of this site?


Good judgment starts with educating yourself. Good judgment sometimes becomes better judgment with experience. But we all know the stories of those whose judgment is lessened by experience. "I'm ready for this canopy. My landings are fine."

Experience too often causes severely bad judgment, doesn't it? It's whether you live through it that causes better judgment.
