Good Router For Small Internetwork?

Recommended Posts

Hi kidz,

Don't really have time to research this meself.

I'm looking for a SOHO router that will interconnect two networks ONLY, not the Internet.

Here's the deal: I'm setting up the network for the unit, spousal, one each so that I'll have access to one (and only one) of her networked printers. She doesn't want me to access her other computers or printers at all, just the one printer.

Is there a SOHO router with a smart enough IOS (I'm thinking Cisco) that will "hosts allow" machines on subnet A (my network) to see the IP address of the printer on network B (spousal unit's network), but "hosts deny" any attempt by a PC on Net A to see anything else at all on Net B?

Nothing really that you could go and buy from BestBuy or a retailer is popping to mind.

I'm not a Cisco user if I can avoid getting into an IOS, but even the low end stuff goes for $150 used on ebay.

What is the big deal about making the homenetwork on a single switch? Unless there is a huge need not to see the other devices its a lot of money being tossed into a router that can be better spent on LCD screens and iPods

It's the way the spousal unit wants it. She wants the printer on her network, but wants my access to her network restricted to the printer only.
