Only 155mph?

Recommended Posts

I would have figured the record for speeding in Germany would have been MUCH higher then 155mph. Especially on a sport bike.

German police can't catch record-breaking speeder

Mon Jun 13, 8:42 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A motorcyclist captured on film by German police racing at 251 km per hour (155 mph) on a road near Berlin has set a new unofficial national record for speeding, Bild newspaper reported on Monday.

Travelling more than twice the speed limit of 100 kmh, the motorcycle rider was caught on film in a police radar trap near Bad Freienwalde outside Berlin but authorities don't know who the speeder was because motorcycles have no front licence plates.

"We are not able to identify him," said Lothar Wiegand, a spokesman for the Brandenburg Transport Ministry in Potsdam.

While German motorists who break speed limits are identified by their licence plates in police photos and receive their fines by post shortly after their infractions, motorcycle riders often escape unpunished.

I've personally seen 175mph on the speedo of my 94 'Blade in Germany (and Holland), so screw that slow assed pussy.

Most autobahns aren't speed restricted, so I guess he was in a controlled area.

I've been two up at 145mph too, my passenger nodded off to sleep at one point. He woke up when I got on the brakes. :D

maybe that's why this is a record. it's not a speed record, just a record for someone in a speed zone.

Well I know Germany sighed an agreement a while back that all the cars made in Germany have restricted chips in them so they will not go over 155mph. That could be where that # came from.

Depending on the bike, that's very possibly the top end. Keep in mind, most sportbikes have about a 10% error on the speedo at those speeds - so when your buddy says he was doing 180 on his R1, call him an idiot, then point out that he was probably only doing about 160-ish.

I must admit having driven 250 km/h in Germany quite frequently. Could not go faster - it was a stock BMW with a fuel cut of. Sadly the only time you can do that is at night. Otherwise traffic sucks.
