RoysPlayThing 0 #1 June 14, 2005 Okay... So not to insult anyones intelligence, or beliefs... But I've been getting emails from people, forwarded because in the email it said something to the effect that if you don't send to a set amount of people, that you will have bad luck, or If you do send to X amount of people then you will get your wish.. etc, etc... I personally think this is so scamming.. but some of you that I thought had more sense actually send these things. So what gives? ... do you really think these will change your course in life? _______________________________________________ My mind is like a parachute...it functions only when open. yardhippie 0 #2 June 14, 2005 Its crap. I dont want it, so I'll not send it. I'll delete it on first sight. Even if you are my friend. Sorry, just my .02! Ive not send thousands of those things. Yet Im still alive, not bankrupt, happy, healthy, willing and able. Damn junk mail. Love my filters! Girlfalldown 0 #3 June 14, 2005 Those freakin emails piss me off! I hate forwarded emails anyway especially when they have all the little >>'s on them and then say send this to all your friends. It's so irritating. I usually just delete them right when I get them. If it happens to be something interesting that I want to sent to someone I delete all the arrows and the part about forwarding but usually those emails don't even get that far with me. Edited to add: There was that one time Bill Gates sent me 8 million dollars because I forwarded his email... Boy I'm glad I did that one! But then I got scammed by this Nigerian prince that asked for my bank account numbers so he could transfer some money out of an account there for his wife and children. That was a real bummer. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)

RoysPlayThing 0 #8 June 14, 2005 yeah.. I know they are scams... but what puzzles me is how do the scammers benefit from us forwarding to x amount of people?.. How are they grabbing their emails from that?? _______________________________________________ My mind is like a parachute...it functions only when open. Icon134 0 #9 June 14, 2005 We had an email bomb go through the office (pronounced nearly entire base...) after about 3 messages saying not to stop the chain... the "take me off the list" messages started... and continued through today... This was my favorite response: Quote At the risk of becoming at part of the problem I'm pointing out, PLEASE PLEASE stop selecting "Reply to All". Do you have any idea how many people this is going to. It is over 16 pages of distribution lists, who knows how many individuals. The email itself is over 600K with the distribution list. The "Reply to All" syndrome is worse than the original email. Please Stop! the number of recipients recieving nearly every message is in the range of 26,000 people... wasting tons of time... clogging networks.... that sort of thing is annoying... I don't like it.... In fact I just got another prayer request... Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...

How are they grabbing their emails from that?? They can't/don't. The e-mails (chain letters, hoaxes, virus warnings, etc) are meant only to clog e-mail boxes, waste bandwidth, instill panic, and otherwise screw with the general population. If all mail server owners would guard against these types of e-mails life would be easier. Imagine a world without mass mailer viruses spewing millions of needless intertrash. "You did what?!?!"
