I’ve never been on a motorcycle.

Is it a bad idea to wear a Z1 when riding bitch on a motorcycle?

It will be if you crash. :oSkydiving helmets are not rated for any kind of impact.

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

Depends on whether or not you fall off, the helmet will offer VERY little impact protection,
So if the rider is not a clown and doesn't do anything stupid, chances are you'll be fine.

Well even if the rider is not a clown but another clown turns left in front of him/her the result could be tragic.

If you've never been on a motorcycle (as a rider, not a passenger), then I would not recommend wearing a Z1 as your sole form of protection. If you are riding as a passenger with an experienced, mature rider, then I personally would not sweat it for most rides. I don't have any problems riding my Harley FLTR Road Glide with a novelty helmet, but then again I don't ride it like a squid. I will most likely not be riding my new Buell XB9R (which I pickup on Wednesday) with that novelty helmet. That said, I would much rather have a full-face skydiving helmet (for protection) than my beanie lid. I absolutely have worn my factory diver on my bike in the winter on long road trips.

Quick bit of info: I have been riding motorcycles since I was six years old. I have dropped each and every motorcycle and ATV I have ever owned for one reason or another. Motocross wrecks; endo'ing crossing a deep creek; hitting lose gravel in the road in the middle of a turn; skidding right off an exit ramp on I-95 in the rain in Emporia, VA! I consider myself a very, very accomplished rider, but sometimes "shit happens". You definitely want something on your head if there is any possibility that you will go down with enough force to smash your head. Cruising the strip at Myrtle Beach or Daytona running 5mph doesn't warrant a lid in my opinion, but dodging around in rush hour traffic sure does.

Chuck

You could actually argue that, depending on the helmet used. A 'bad' helmet could actually be worse than no helmet.

Hey Belinda.

I care.

If you want to wear the Z1 on the bike, be sure the engine is turned off.

When the engine is on, make sure you have a proper helmet.

Hands down youi need to wear a DOT or SNELL approved helmet. Here are a few stats of a survey that was done between 1990-1999.

Helmet use among fatally injured motorcyclists was below 50 percent

According to the report, from 1990 through 1999, there were a total of 11,038 fatal single vehicle motorcycle crashes. During that same time period, there were an estimated 294,000 non-fatal single vehicle motorcycle crashes. :o

It comes back to risk vs reward. I've been riding for a fair amount of time and over 95% of my close calls have been related to the driver of a car or truck not paying attention to their surroundings.

If you haven't rode 2 up before (as a passenger). Remember that a passenger on a bike has responsibilities as well. Just sitting their and looking pretty is the easy part. Make sure your driver gives you an overview of what to do with your hands, head, hips, balance, etc.

I won't let anybody on my bike until they put on a lid, even if they don't like it.

Have fun. Motorcycles are a blast.

It's kind of like jumping without an altimeter, AAD, or reserve. You can do it and be fine, but if you ever need it and you don't have it your in trouble.

If you are trying to get around a helmet law depending on the state you could still get a ticket if it's not DOT or SNELL approved.

On another note when I had an FZR 600 (feels like forever ago) I hated riding without a helmet. Your hair gets all tangled, getting smacked in the face with a bug and watery eyes.

Once I was riding with an open face helmet and caught a cigarette from a car in the cheek. Ever since then it's been full face all the time.

By law you must wear a safety helmet when riding a motorcycle on the road.

All helmets sold in the UK must either:

comply with British Standard Bs 6658:1985 and carry the BSI kitemark
comply with UNECE Regulation 22.05
comply with any standard accepted by a member of the European Economic Area which offers a level of safety and protection equivalent to BS 6658:1985 and carry a mark equivalent to the BSI kitemark
