The DZ (Mile-Hi in Longmont) is open 7 days a week this time of year. Since I'm now an unemployed bum (with some savings) I'll likely be there jumping on one of those days. Of course we could take the time and find eeneR and Kelel01 a place to live.

If you like scenic drives and if you'll be in the right areas...

Hwy 50 west out of Pueblo to Hwy 69; turn south to Hwy 96 in Westcliffe; go east to Hwy 165 which goes back to I-25 in Colorado City.

On 165 there is a place called Bishop's Castle about 20 miles west of I-25. It's a homemade castle and it's still a work in progress. It's currently about 5-6 stories tall and admission is free but the guy likes donations!

Also on 165-I've seen bear everytime I've ever travelled this road. This trip takes about 4 hours.

Another good trip is to go up the highway that runs on the east side of the rockies from I-70 (west of Denver) up to Estes Park. There are lots of elk to be seen there this time of year. You could make this drive and come back down another state hwy to jump at Mile High.

hmmm...I just left there after 20 yrs. What to do this time of year..well jumping is decent usually.:S You can rock climb, go to Vail and fish, ride a mountain bike outside Grand Junction or better yet, visit Moab,Utah right on the border! Durango is also fun! You can head down towards the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and go a little east and do some Soaring and Gliding over Pikes Peak which is only $40 and a day of fun! If I recall, it's High Flights Soaring Club. So much more...but too early to think of it all right now..PM or call me and I'll make sure you stay busy for your two weeks out there;)

And previous person with "Bishops' Castle" ..well that's south near Pueblo off I25 and heading towards Canon City...and Royal Gorge....and there's a dz on your way there too..."Skydive the Rockies"

Its a big state, and you don't mention WHERE in colorado you will be. only a few days to drive around?

You could stick to driving around the foothills around whatever city you are at.
If near Denver, then check out Boulder. one very cool town, fun to walk around Pearl Street and drive up Flagstaff Mountain for a great view. If you drive west on Canyon/Arapaho Roads into the mountains, you will have a great drive up to Gold Hill and other old mining towns. Makes a big loop and you end up in Boulder again or Estes Park (Rocky Mtn Natl Park)

Head up to the mountains on I-70. Vail, Aspen, Cooper Mountains. Pick your place where you want to stay. If you are into the history of things, make sure you stop at the rest stops along the way on I-70 once you go over Vail pass and learn how that highway was built. You can also take or rent a bike and hit the paved bike trails from the rest stops and see some great sites.
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

st. mary's glacier, you'll see the signs on i-70 headin east towards all the big rich mountain towns. its a nice little hike and if you carry skiis or a borad up there its a fun little run down straight to a lake.

Most importantly though, stay hydrated. The air is dry even in Denver. If you head up to the high country, take it easy as altitude sickness is a real thing. I've been out here for a month now living at jump altitude of my former DZ and the stairs are still kicking my ass.
