Many reasons to need it - pregnancy and childbirth being the main culprit, but sometimes just bad tissue/support and things just kinda collapse and fall. (if you really want to know more - google complete uterine prolapse). There are different types of repair, some natural, some with mesh for support..... all depends on what is needed. I forget where this is happening, It's more for woman that need to prove they are virgins to their husbands on their wedding night. And, with healing, there can be scarring, fistula formation (connections between bladder and vaginia or colon and vaginia), disruption of innervation (less sensation for her), dyparunia (fancy word for pain with intercourse... a BAD thing!!) More risks than benefits, just to be "tighter".... IMHO.
