f1freak 0 #5 June 19, 2005 It's going the other way look at the "Recreational Pilot" Cert...... It's not just having the raiting to fly IFR it's just most of the time shit happens, unless it's proved the pilot was doing something stupid..... I love seeing more people having the ability to share the air.....HAVE FUN... ...JUST DONT DIE

Kind of at a loss for seeing sense here ...and how is this proposition supposed to help? Kinda what I was thinking...was the crash in Instrument conditions? I mean if not, I don't see how the IFR rating would make a difference. Even if it was IMC, then wtf was the pilot doing up in them? My uncle has been flying for more than 30 years I estimate, and has much-o hours, and never needed an IFR rating. I don't see that because I will have an IFR rating in another 5 months that I will then by default be a safer and more skilled pilot than he is in VFR conditions... ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Yeah, From the news report an IFR rating would have definitely stopped this crash from happening! If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! I said, "See that button there?" He says, "Yea, that's the power button, right?" I replied, "Yea, now NEVER TOUCH THAT AGAIN!" Problem has since been solved (we do alot of remote assistence, and it seems every time he had a problem, he had turned off his computer, and we already in his car heading home. )It's your life, live it! Are you serious? 1- It doesn't sound like weather was a factor. 2- It wasn't a "commuter plane", if you mean twin engine turboprop with up to a dozen seats or more. 3- Commuter airline pilots most definitely do have their IFR ratings. 4- When was the last airline crash in this country? Hasn't it been 2-3 years?

marcandalysse 0 #21 June 20, 2005 Read the newsarticle. Pilot died in crash....big explosions..... QuoteThe Seawind 3000 took off from Sarasota on its way to Venice, about 17 miles south, when it reported a problem and attempted to turn back. Then it hit Tuttle Elementary School, she said. Police said it clipped the building and crashed nearby. "It crashed and burst into flames," Frank said. The pilot was the only person on board and the only victim. "We thought there were two bodies but there was only one," said Jay Frank, Sarasota police spokesman. "It's very well contained, not much debris."
