marks 0 #2 June 17, 2005 problem in the registry...... do you have a backup copy? if not do a system restor in winxp. that should get it.... anything loaded between then and now will dissappear though..
mdrejhon 8 #3 June 17, 2005 I saw this happen when I had two hard disks changing modes (PIO / DMA). It booted super slow. I had to reconfigure the BIOS and cables. I forced them to singlemode (turn off multimode) and use a slow PIO setting. That suddenly sped up booting. The old hard disk drive didn't like to play with a new hard disk drive. Windows suddenly deciding to boot 10 times slower is often caused by a hardware problem or a bad driver problem - you may want to check into that. Try going to Safe Mode and seeing if that boots fast. It can be other things too...Just giving you a few handles to grasp at. hipgnosis 0 #4 June 17, 2005 Another possibility is a problem with one of the usb devices attached to the computer. Unplug all of them. Also, at the start of the bootup you can hit F8 to get some Windows booting options. Select safe mode and see if you can get in to Windows that way. If you can, look at the event log to see what's going on and do a scandisk on your disks. Bill
waltappel 1 #5 June 17, 2005 Personally, I'd look for spyware and/or viruses. Walt
britboynz 0 #6 June 17, 2005 It's also possible that spyware or a virus has deleted/corrupted/damaged a system file. Windows has a utility to scan for missing/corrupt files: Open up a command prompt (START / RUN / Type in CMD in the 'open' box then click OK at the command prompt type in: SFC /SCANNOW SFC (system file checker) then scans all system files and may need your original windows CD to replace any that are missing or corrupt. leroydb 0 #7 June 17, 2005 i tried this, but it dosent seem to think that the disk i put in is the original windows disk... I found out now that I am haveing issues even after its logged on. I will try to continue to fix it... might end up finally installing the 250 gig as the master.... then copy any files from the old drive as a slave to the master... trying to find a way to make a boot cd... i dont seem to have any floppy disks aroundLeroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio... mattsplat 0 #8 June 17, 2005 It sounds like you need the BFT (big fuckin tool). Then begin to hit whatever that does not work even other people.

packerboy 3 #10 June 17, 2005 I had that problem twice when I installed SP2, I had to remove it and try it again.. 3rd time was a charm, like it was mentioned below, I would try checking all of the drivers, and try booting after removing all USB devices devices and rebooting multiple times each time adding one device back into the system. SP2 doesn't like some drivers and devices that may seem to work fine without it. Sometimes the problem doesn't pop up right away after install either. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
