If you have your nipple(s) pierced, did it hurt to get it?

Recommended Posts

Hey body-modders...

On Sunday (Father's Day), I went with my girlfriend, who has both nipples pierced, to get my left nipple pierced.

On the way there (she drove), she asked me over and over again if I was alright, was I nervous, etc. She asked more when we were waiting in the shop (Ink Link in West Palm Beach). I told her that no, I was not really nervous, not afraid of a bit of pain, but I did wonder exactly how I would react -- would I wince, would I yelp, or make the "OWWW" face silently, or something altogether different.

As it turns out, I pretty much didn't do anything. I was lying there in the chair, looking down at my nipple, and the guy laid the needle against it and lined up, and then proceeded to push it through to the cork. It seemed like he was really having to work at it, and I kinda got lost during the whole thing -- couldn't really follow what was going on until it was done. Then of course he had to use the pliers on the CBR to close it up.

When he started to pierce, he told me to breathe in, and so I did (thinking "yoga") and then he had to tell me to breathe out! But I was totally like, "Okay, so it's pain, it hurts. And?" Then it was done.

I surprised myself, and my gilfriend. She couldn't believe that I watched it happen instead of looking away.

It's been two days since I had it done. We went to Walmart afterward to get Bactine, and it throbbed just a bit then, but by the time I was ready to wash it and Bactine it and go to sleep that night, it wasn't what I would call painful. I can even tug on it without it being a real bother. That's the biggest surprise to me, because I had heard and read SO many stories that it hurts and is sore like a bitch for days and maybe weeks! But that's not my experience at this point. Cool!

How did you react when you got your nipple(s) pierced?

man....... I will never understand getting pierced....

I havent and will never do it.

but I do have a story to tell.

I played 2 on 2 sand pit volleyball, at one of the meets one of the competitors spiked the ball on me (successfully)[:/] but then drug his pierced nipple chest down the net and ripped both rings out.....B| I was 2 feet away from him when he did it..... and I am here to tell you, it hurt me to watch.....and I havent ever seen a man sit on his knees crying like that.....

no thankya......none for me.....but have fun with it :P

I went down to the parlor with my husband when he went to get his right nipple pierced because he had gotten his left one doen a few year earlier and wanted both done now. So a few days before we had discussed it and he had said that he'd been thinking about doing it, so to kinda mess with him I told him I'd get both of mine done if he'd go ahead and get his done. So we both ended up with pierced nipples that night lol. It was kinda cool since we got to be there to support each other, not that either of us needed it because we each have other piercings/high pain tolerances. But it was still nice.

I was expecting far worse pain than it actually was.I probably psyched myself up for nothing thinking about it too much before hand. She asked me to take a deep breath while she did the actual piercing and I felt a sharp pinch while she told me to exhale. After that she inserted the jewelry and closed the CBR and I felt a slight stinging tug from the jewelry while she was closing it w/ the pliers and thats about it. Repeat on other nipple lol.

As far as aftercare goes my husband and I used different techniques. He would clean it with alcohol (ouch!yuck!) and then use a triple antibiotic ointment on it and keep it covered while he was at work. His seemed to heal alot faster than mine did and wasn't nearly as sore. I used my piercer's recommended antimicrobial soap and cleaned the piercings twice daily and used a light coating of the triple antibiotic ointment. He was sore for only a few weeks while I didn't fully heal for several months.:S

We both love them now though.B|

Thanks for the story, Moody.

Hmmm... alcohol and antibiotic ointment? Those are both of the things that the written care instructions they gave me said not to use! They said that while alcohol would kill germs, it would also kill the new cells that were trying to heal around the wound. And they said that air getting to the wound helps it heal so avoid using things like Neosporin which would sort of seal it off.

Mine is doing fine so far; a washing in the morning with Dial antibacterial soap, and two treatments with Bactine, which they really recommend highly (I think they own stock in the company or something). :P

Yeah, they kinda freak you out when they're tightening the CBR and you realize what would happen if the pliers slipped off the jewelry!

I hear from all of my guy friends that have a ton pierced that they thought it was the worst.

I think mine were the wrost and its worse for guys than girls (most of the time, I pierced and knew pierced people, it was usually worse for the males).

It can be bloody and painful. My friend who was watching almost passed out!!!:o Glad ur story is different:)

I got both of mine done about a year ago. It hurt on the first one then when he told me to breath out on the second one, i was hesitant because i knew what was coming next.:D They were sore if something rubbed against them (harness) and other than that, no problems whatsoever. I love em, and so does my girl. I would say they definately hurt more than my PA did.:D

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

When I got both of mine done it hurt more on the second one just bc i knew what was coming...The horizontal ones are not too bad... Afterwards the healing process was not bad at all...Now after 3 years it was one of the best piercings that I have!!!;) Take a friend with you so you have something to focus on instead of what is to come...

yeah I know, and thats what I tried to tell him, but he's stubborn and does things his own way. He cleans all wounds with alcohol though. He said he got his first nipple piercing back in the late 80s or very early 90s and at the time thats how they told him to clean it.So he said if its good enough for him then it was good enough for him now since that one healed just fine.:S I decided not to argue and let him do his thing and I'd do what my favorite piercer gave for care instructions.

I didn't use the ointment daily, only when then wounds were reallly sore. Another good tip my piercer gives is to soak the piercings in warm salt water (very low salt mixture) to help ease the soreness and discharge and then rinse thoroughly with clean tap water. That definitely helped with all my piercings when they were sore.

Oh, just wait til you try to change the jewelry for the first time and try to take that bad boy out! Jeez! You'll dang near need pliers to get that stupid CBR back out because some piercers tighten it so much when they put it in the first time.:SMy husband was laughing at me and all the profanity that was coming out of the bathroom the first time I tried to change jewelry.:S:D:P

almost two years later, mine still hurt from time to time.
don't count your chickens before they hatch, basically. just enjoy the healing process. because, for me, that's one of the best parts of getting a new piercing. it's just too bad my nipples never seem to fully heal.

the story about the volleyball guy ripping his out made me quiver. i've snagged mine a few times on various things and OUCH!!!!!!!! what the fuck! it's an indescribable pain. i couldn't even BEGIN to imagine the pain of having them ripped clean out. no thanks. i'll keep wearing my bra, thank you very much.

good luck jeffrey, and be sure to keep your cleansings a ritual. a nipple infection doesn't sound like much fun.

the piercing itself wasnt too bad, but good God, the aftermath! i could barely stand to wear a shirt it hurt so damn bad. also, it took over 6 months to heal up - keep in mind the place i got mine at actually pierced me under the nipple not through it. apparantly this stops migration where the body rejects the piercing.
all of my piercings are now gone, but i would have to say that the noipple piercing was even worse than my P.A.B|
