ladyskydiver 0 #1 June 4, 2005 Today was the day for my mom and her best friend's tandems. I'm pretty sure that I was more excited than she was. Get up this morning (5:45am) and mom's telling me that she thought I wasn't going to get up and go to the DZ with her. Her tandem was scheduled for 9am. Get to the DZ way early as she just couldn't sit still. I'm sitting at 298 jumps when we show up at the DZ. I get mom and her friend started on the paperwork, arrange for the TM's and video guys, and let manifest know that if there's any way that I can get up on a load prior to mom's jump that I really wanted to. Manifest was able to get me on a load prior to mom's and I managed to get in a very nice sitfly jump, get packed up, and spend some time yapping with mom explaining what'll happen on the jump, etc. She's soo cute and nervous as all get out but won't admit she's nervous. She just wants to get the jump done. I'm checking into when she'll be going up and it's now time. Get her introduced to her TM (Bas) and video guy (Hoochie) and then I'm off to get ready as I'll be lurking mom's tandem for my 300th jump. I check with Bas and Hoochie to make sure that I know what they'll be doing, what they want me to do, etc. For me...I don't care if I dock with mom or not...all I want is to be in the air with her watching her experience of a tandem. We load the plane and as we start taxing, mom starts getting really nervous. Jeff (Plummet) bails out as he's doing a hop 'n' pop and mom gets wide eyed, turns to me and says "I don't know if I can do it." Bas and Hoochie are doing their best trying to get mom to relax and calm down. At this point, I'm more nervous than mom. What happens if something goes wrong? Talk about a scary feeling...knowing that I willingly jump and understand the risks and yet when it comes to my mom, it's a whole nother story. We get up to altitude and get ready to go. I'm supposed to take a 1 second delay but deliberately take a 2 second delay. From a little distance away (yes, I could have gotten to mom but she was nervous enough that I was not going to add me into the mix for her), I watch mom's tandem. I watch Hootchie dock with her and it's already time to deploy. I have the pleasure of watching them deploy...watching line stretch...watching Hootchie and then it's time for me to deploy. I land in the bowl (no penetration) and walk to where mom's going to land. Greet her and hear her say "I hated it!" My poor mom was so scared and the speed they were going at made her so uncomfortable that she had her eyes closed most of freefall. She only had her eyes open for a few seconds when Hootchie docked on her. She then clarified that she hated freefall but loved the canopy ride and that if she could do canopy rides the entire time she'd willing to another tandem again. But, that if she has to do freefall, she'll never do another tandem. It was an awesome jump. Still pics need to be developed and the DVD's going to be mailed to mom. As soon as I have some pics available, I'll post them.Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.
