Maverick could take the polaroid because the Mig was doing all the flying Wendy W. As I recall, Maverick (aka Tom Cruise, the supreme authority of psychiatry) didn't take the shot--it was his RTO, Mongoose. Walt

RTO= Radio Telephone Operator; RIO- Radar Intercept Officer. And it's Goose, not MonGoose.

BillyVance 35 #30 June 29, 2005 QuoteThe thing to remember about any aerial demonstration team is that they are as much illisionist as accomplished pilots. Every move is carefully choreographed to provide the maxium suggestion of danger while minimizing the risk as much as possible. if you ever get a chance, find out when the Birds or Angels will be in town and then watch the show from somewhere other than the airshow. Viewing the show from a "wrong" angle will give you a much better idea of their seperation. They're still close, but not near as close as you'd think. -Blind I have seen the Blue Angels perform many times in practice along the Alabama peninsula in the past. They did some mind-blowing things (at the time anyway) before they got the F-18s. I can appreciate the suggestion of camera angles making them appear closer than they really are. kjarv 0 #31 June 29, 2005 Have you ever seen the Chilean AF Halcones' show? Imagine group of Patty Wagstaff's doing the same aerobatics in formation! I think their show is more energetic and visually stunning than any of the 'big military fast jet' shows. You just can't toss an F-16 around like you can an Extra 300 Plus, their announcer is great... I love it when he announces with his full on spanish accent "they will now be performing a verrrry rrrisky maneuverrr"! I can't find video of their performance but here's a link to their website http://www.fach.cl/galeria/halcones.htm
TheAnvil 0 #32 June 29, 2005 One of my college room-mates flies Right Wing for the Blues. When I showed him a few pics of me in some RW formations he just said 'Man, Vino, you're a fucking idiot!' I'll send him the pics of the Russkis and see what he says. Beers to all, Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! BillyVance 35 #33 June 29, 2005 I've actually piloted an Extra 300, but didn't have to do the take-off and landing parts. [Wink] It was my brother's best friend's plane and he took me up in it, and at 4000 feet over the California coast, let me do all kinds of shit with it. Barrel rolls, loops, inverted loops, etc. [Cool] damn it, I want one of those babies for myself!!"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
