steve1 5 #5 February 22, 2005 Sorry for your loss! I recall seeing some S.F. people who had thin, round, copper bracelets in the 70's. I'm not sure if those were representing missing P.O.W.'s or maybe they were from the Hmong Mountainyard people they advised in Vietnam. At any rate this seems like a very worthy cause. I always looked up to Golden Knights, and I'm sorry to hear of any soldier's death....Steve1
LouDiamond 1 #6 February 23, 2005 Steve I think you are describing what is known as a BAHT bracelet, made in several different designs but the simple band being what most of the tribesmen wear. LouDiamond 1 #16 March 10, 2005 I got this in an e-mail today. Seems Pedro is still going the extra mile and helping people out. Rock on bro. "I am 1SG Robert Louden of 2d Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and this is a true story of how God can turn a bad situation into more than we could possibly imagine if we would only give him the opportunity. On January 2, 2005, a comrade in arms of mine was killed in action in a remote area of western Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His name was SFC Pedro Muñoz, a native of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, and a member of 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). I did not know Pedro as well as I would have liked, however, as with all the men that wear the Green Beret, when one falls in combat it touches us all. It so happened that the unit had ID bracelets made in memory of Pedro that many of us purchased for $15. The money was to go to his daughter’s college fund. They were made available only 2 days prior to my going on vacation to visit my son in California, which I now realize was exactly how God’s timing works. In California over the past few months, my son’s family, being my ex-wife and his stepfather Todd and Ruth, were looking for a new church. They had been visiting different churches in the area and a few weeks prior to my arrival decided to visit a church in Arnold, California called Chapel in the Pines. On Sunday, February 13, 2005, I was in attendance to hear a great service with an announcement that the youth group was planning to go on a mission trip to Mexico. It was going to take place in a couple weeks and on this same Sunday evening there would be a Mexican dinner and an auction to help raise money for the trip. At that point God moved on me, at first in a silent way of just telling me to return that evening to enjoy the food and see the auction, but later throughout the day it was clear what God wanted. He put it on my heart very clearly that I didn’t need Pedro’s ID Bracelet any longer. What I felt for the loss of my brother was buried in my heart; I was to offer the bracelet up for auction. That evening I returned to the church with my son. I asked the kind lady running things if I could add the bracelet to the list of items to be auctioned and was informed that I could but it would be at the end. With that I ate my meal and enjoyed the fellowship, however, the longer I sat watching the auction the more worried I became. I thought, “this is only a bracelet, I don’t want to be embarrassed by it not being sold for very much, Pedro deserves more then that”. I prayed that it would at least sale for $25-$50, I felt that would be helpful to the mission trip. Close to the end of the evening my name was called and the auctioneer asked me to come on the stage to give some information about the bracelet. Once on stage I quickly introduced myself to this audience that had never seen me before. I told them that I was in the US Army Special Forces, the “Green Berets”, and that I had a bracelet of a buddy of mine that had been killed in Afghanistan. I told them briefly about Pedro being a loving husband, father, and a faithful Christian man. I quickly closed to tell them that I felt God wanted this item to be auctioned and that Pedro would be proud to have his memory serve a Godly purpose. What happened next brought me to tears. I had no more then walked off the stage when the senior pastor of the church yells out “100 dollars”, this was quickly followed by another man yelling “200 dollars”. At that point my mouth was hanging open but the Holy Spirit wasn’t finished yet. In the front, a man sounds off with “500 dollars.” With the audience in total amazement one man called out one final offer, it was for $1000.00. For a moment no one made a sound, then slowly the auctioneer recited the phrase “going once, going twice, sold for $1000.00.” The entire church stood at that point and cheered. I simply put my face in my hands and wept. It has been 5 days since this happened and I am still telling the story to everyone I meet. What really has me smiling is that I feel God is not done with this story yet. Remember, he said that if you would only have the faith of a mustard seed you could move a mountain. God has shown me that He will do far beyond what we pray for if we will only honor what he asks us to do. I pray for the teen’s mission trip to Mexico and have a sweet peace in knowing that $1000.00 of the work on schools or churches will be because a man named SFC Pedro A. Muñoz, who by his very nature proves God’s word to be true. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 KJV May God bless all who read these words!""It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
