Well........after 6 years and ~500 jumps I finally broke down

Recommended Posts

and bought a Cypres. My rigger has it on order and it should be waiting for me when I get home. I haven't had a Cypres since I stopped jumping rental gear at jump 48. I was WAY over due for one I guess. It was never that I didn't have the money for one. I'm just a cheap bastard. :D I figured that I make really good money now so I have NO more good excuses. So...........if you don't have a good AAD BUY ONE STUPID! ;)

'Bout time!!

Goofball...

I kept rationalizing..............~500 jumps and I haven't forgotten to pull yet! :D

Yes, but you've also never jumped combat RW with me...my boot found a helmet on one such jump, and another shoe found my face mask on a second...:o

I guess you don't regularly jump with shitty skydivers. :D

Got a sister? Is she hot? :D

Nop, but he lives in Australia and you know what they're famous for don't ya? :D

But seriously, nice one on the AAD dude, mine's been sitting in a drawer at home cos i've been skint lately and it needs a service. It's going to Airtec this weekend though.

Now you ain't stupid anymore. :D

Heck, when I first started, my rig had an FXC-12000 aad on it. It misfired on jump #55 I think, leaving me with a 2 out in a side by side. I had never been so scared shitless. I landed with a great PLF though, but had the aad taken out, and I didn't jump with one until about 550 jumps or so when my friend and 300 way captain of the 1998 world record attempts at Chicago was knocked unconscious on breakoff and went in with nothing pulled. She didn't have a cypres. So... less than a month after, my rig got one installed.

However, I have two rigs now, and the other one, which I use primarily for CRW with a PD Lightning, doesn't have a cypres. I'm still debating whether I need one for it...

As one enters, another leaves..

I did 2000 + dives in the Pre Cypres era.
My Cypres is now 12 years old - and I've never used it.
It's cost me countless extra reserve repacks for a host of issues.
I won't be replacing it. So. 4600+ dives, with a bunch of extra pulls for
tandem and AFF, and 18 cutaways... I'm on my own again.

And I think I'm in good hands.

You can laugh about this post if you read about me being knocked out or losing alti awareness and going in.

Well..........if you look back a couple years you may find the story of a guy with 4000+ jumps that was primarily a crew dog. Exited a King Air I believe and whacked his head on the tail. Never regained conciousnous. Another person I know and has occasionally posted here was saved by her Cypres when she exited a West Wind and struck the tail. She woke up hanging in a tree across the street from a Wal Mart with a redneck poking her with a stick. :D My opinion on Cypres.......it's millions of times more likely to save you than it is to hurt you. So............I'll feel better with one in. Oh........and don't turn this thread into a DEBATE!!!!!!!! :D

After 500 jumps without one myself, I broke down and bought one today too. I've been kicked and knee'd in the face a few times during RW (hard enough to drip a little blood even), but now that I'm starting freeflying, I figure that I might actually be hit hard enough to be knocked out. Those free flailers are crazy! :P Now that I'm not a starving college student, I can't use that "being poor" excuse anymore either ;)

Jaye, are you talking about jumping with me again????
Sheeeeesh!!!!
I'm a broke skydiver as well.... no AAD, just a touch of ADD ;) But I still remember to pull after 236 jumps.

At the Dublin boogie, I got a hell of a kick to my Factory Diver-protected chin from a 240 lb dude that I was following out of the Casa on a big way. Rung my bell pretty good too, but luckily I shook it off and got in the dive. Back on the ground I took off the helmet and found a spiderweb of cracks across the chin-guard! :S Yeah I had my cypres-equipped rig on. :)
