windcatcher 0 #3 July 5, 2005 yep!!! Well, my Spectre was waaaaaaay too hard for me to finish my flare all the way. Chad thought there was something wrong with it, so he jumped it and found out my brake lines were 5 inches too short!!! No wonder that canopy couldn't flare all the way! Mother to the cutest little thing in the world...
Dougiefresh 0 #4 July 5, 2005 That doesn't make sense. If the brake lines are too long you can't finish your flare. If they're too short your flare should happen too soon when you try to flare. Or are you saying that you physically couldn't straighten your arms because the the lines were too short? Lines that short seem like a recipe for unexpected stalls. I'm no rigger, but this doesn't make sense to me... please explain...Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

That happened to me way back when. Lines shrink! If your lines are too short you never get your canopy into full flight so you don't get a full flare. Makes perfect sense to me. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)

freeflir29 0 #8 July 5, 2005 Yep.........I have had many a similar experience. In fact...........when I bought my Vengeance I ALMOST did my standard routine of adding 4-6 inches to the brake lines before I even jumped it. Damn glad I didn't...........that would have been more exciting than I really need. First canopy I have ever jumped that the brake lines were PERFECT on when I got it.
 SkydiveNFlorida 0 #11 July 5, 2005 Wow. I know this kinda stuff has been posted on here, but sounds like not everyone knows so in order to check that the length of your lines is ok you should: If you can get to full flare, hold it, and not get a stall, your lines are probably too long! If when your brakes are released you can't see some slack in the lines above your head (you should be able to look up at your lines, all be taut except for brakes which should be bowing a bit) then your lines are too short. If you can stall your canopy at half flare they are too short. If you pull your front riser down and you get bucking, they are too short. Glad to hear you guys have fixed the problems. Spectra does shrink, so check now and again and don't forget to untwist your brakes, too. :) -A
 ACMESkydiver 0 #12 July 5, 2005 QuoteWow.
