CanuckInUSA 0 #1 June 21, 2005 Well as of 10:30 am (MDST) I am sporting a new 3rd class aviation medical good until (June 30th, 2007) and I just visited my old FBO and reserved an airplane and my old flight instructor (who's not going to cut any corners with me) towards getting my BFR (Bi-annual Flight Review) signed off so that I can take to the air as PIC after my two year hiatis. Damn skydiving addiction took me away from flying. I am really curious to see how I handle the airplane in my two year absence. But if my recent flight sim practice is any indication, then I should be fine landing (I land better now than two years ago when I was current flying real airplanes). Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing from other pilots who took time off because of skydiving and got back into it. Plus if there are any Canadian pilots out there, it might be nice to compare notes on how the FAA and Transport Canada conduct business (for when the INS deports my ass later this year). CanuckInUSA 0 #3 July 9, 2005 After a two week delay waiting for my original flight instructor to become available, I got my Bi-annual Flight Review signed off today. So I'm good to go. Good to get behind the controls of an airplane as a solo pilot-in-command private VFR pilot and kill myself (and my passengers) without taking a flight instructor with me. Hmmm ... where should I fly now ... I only have access to rental airplanes, so I can't get too elaborate. I wish flying was cheaper. PS: Just kidding about the kill myself part. CanuckInUSA 0 #5 July 9, 2005 QuoteWhen I saw this I thought wtf, not current?? I saw you jumping just a couple weeks ago. Yes I think I'm very current as a skydiver (I've made about 40 or so jumps in the last week) and now I can add 3.6 hours to my pilot log book from yesterday and today. Plus I want to get up in the air sometime next week to make sure I don't get too rusty with my landings, but I also have a swoop comp to train for as well. Shit my savings are going to get depleated this summer. QuoteI have an Aunt and Uncle who are both pilots and they fly their planes everywhere and always seem to have a blast doing it that way. Very cool ... what sort of airplane do they own? I wish I had my own airplane as well (so that I could fly it anywhere I wanted to). But you can't always get what you want. skysprite 0 #6 July 9, 2005 If memory serves, she used to fly an RV-6. Now they have a cessna of some sort that was modified with pontoons for their Alaskan water landings. (She works for none other than the FAA in Alaska.) Seems like they might have one or two more, but I don't know what they are.~skysprite
