Thijs 0 #1 July 10, 2005 I do a lot of diving at my local pool during the public hours (we don't have a diving club here). Unfortunalty, sometimes, actually quiet a few times) I enter the water in a pretty bad position which can cause extreme pains to the skin (feeling like it is burning). Is there a way to reduce this pain and the bad effects to your skin? (other than the obvious 'don't fall bad'). Thanks Thijs

popeyefireman 0 #5 July 10, 2005 Well a couple of question first. What is "slaping" the water, is it your legs or back or shoulders? Second, do you have and dive coaching? Fixing your body position is going to be your easiest solution. Try putting a camcorder on a tripod and do half a dozen dives or so. As with skydiving, video can help. And another easy way out would be to break the waters surface tention before entering, as they do with little kids that can get afriad of this feeling. Usualy a garden hose with a sprinkler head does the trick. But from one diver to another, just fix what makes it hurt. Oh ya, and streamline as much as possible. You know biceps squeezing your ears and make a piont. Hope it help some, I don't see a lot of water related question on here so i had to answer. Thijs 0 #6 July 10, 2005 It is mainly landing my back. With slaping I mean incompleting a sommersault, or overrotating a sommersault unintentionally and hitting the water in a (near) flat position (on back or chest, mainly back). I don't have a diving coach unfortunatly. Video is going to be difficult. I mainly train alone and I'm not willing to just place my camera in the pool where everybody just can take it away (or where it can get wet). The water isn't really stable when I jump (because there are also other people in the pool). And taking a sprinklers in a public pool hmm, , they won't even let me wear a scuba diving or surfing suit Thanks Thijs
popeyefireman 0 #7 July 10, 2005 The holse thng is for kid really. Water, even when is is moving in small waves ( like at a pool) still has is surface tention because it is all moving together. When you hit, you are breaking the tention. So when the water hits it first the water breakes the tention and leave you with the residuals. You may try widening you dive arch, or when you leave the board leave so you will pass the tip 2-3 ft away and you make yourself kinda fold in half at the waist at the top of you rebound. It is hard to explain and I am sorry I cant get it in words. If you are finding that you feet travel over your head and thats why you end up on you back, then it could be a over compinsating thing. Hope that helps some. And as for the camera, just find some cute lifeguard, flur and say how preety she is. If she doesn't throw you out of the pool, then you have a shot of her watching the camera for you. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living. Thijs 0 #8 July 10, 2005 Quote It is hard to explain and I am sorry I cant get it in words. That's ok. I know how hard it is. Someone once asked me to explain to him how to do a front sommersault. I couldn't explain that to him, while front sommersaulting is pretty easy for me now. Quote And as for the camera, just find some cute lifeguard, flur and say how preety she is. If she doesn't throw you out of the pool, then you have a shot of her watching the camera for you. Well, we don't have any cute female lifeguards at our pool. When I actually asked the male lifeguard if I could wear a suit, he was quite rude to me. Wish I wasn't so shy anyway... Thanks anyway for the help Thijs
