Chubba 0 #3 October 19, 2008 There's a camera jumper out at our dropzone, his wife did the design for his rig/main/suit/helmet... even his SHOES are colour coordinated. Black/(bright) Orange. IMO it looks completely badass and very professional.

mr_music11 0 #5 October 20, 2008 Nothing against those who HAVE to be coordinated. I had the opportunity when looking at buying my 1st set of gear of either going used and piecing together my rig or buying brand new. After doing a lot of looking online and asking around, my best value for money and TIME was..... used. I have a navy blue and yellow wings W11, a triathalon 175 that is blue/orange/salmon/yellow. Besides, I had to ask myself, "who am I trying to impress?" or "when was the last time that you thought about the color of your jumpsuit AS you were exiting the aircraft?" . I'm not planning on doing any competition work or work with cameras where the look has to be "pleasing" to the eye. My ONLY true concern was safety and then comfort in a VERY close 2nd. Im not on a catwalk tryin' to look "cute". But then, Im married, have 2 kids, and 3 grandkids which think Im the coolest grandpa around who jumps outta planes! regardless of the color of my canopy or my jumpsuit. Soo, again, no disrespect, coordinate on... I enjoy seeing what other skydivers are wearing! Just don't be suprised or critical of seein me wearin the purple polkadotted free fly pants with the lime green striped jacket cuz it happend to be last years model on sale that works great and feels comfortable! Blue skies!!If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
wayneflorida 0 #6 October 20, 2008 You can't use blue and orange. Those are my colors. Just kidding. I mainly picked orange so I could be seen better. Rig has lots of orange on back. jump suit just has orange grips. My main is mostly orange.
degeneration 5 #7 October 20, 2008 I'm kinda in the same boat with regards to the colour coordination. At the moment my jumpsuit and rig are both second hand. The rig is mainly black with a little red and white on it, the jumpsuit is purple, green and black. Not my favourite colours, but it does its job and that's what matters. However, on downsizing my rig I decided to treat myself and buy new. So I got my own choice of colours on my rig, which will be mainly black with some red and then neon yellow on the pinstripes. The main I originally intended to match so would have been mainly black with some red and probably yellow in there too.. but then I thought a black main might be harder to find after a cutaway so it is now mainly neon yellow, with red end and centre cells. Still matches the container though! And now I'm wanting made to measure jumpsuits - both FF and FS. Now I picked the colours for my rig cause I like those colours, so naturally those are the colours I'm thinking about for my JSs. If you get them custom made, I think it would be rather strange to deliberately choose colours that will clash, unless the deliberately clashing is the look you are going for! Would you wear green tie-dye jeans with a yellow with pink-polka-dots t-shirt in your every day life? Probably not, cause you probably dress with a bit of style and at least want to look quite good - if you are spending money on a new set of kit, why should it be any different there?Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic). That's the whole point, although you might avoid light/bright colors on your seat and knees which will get dirty from crawling around in the plane and on the ground while packing. I like an extra layer of black cordura on those parts of my jumpsuits.
kingbunky 3 #13 October 20, 2008 if you're ordering everything new and custom, it might as well match! i bought a piece of gear a year, and eventually everything matched. jumpsuit, container, canopy, free-fly pants, all red white and black. it's a far cry from my first set of used gear... black, blue and red javelin with a white, pink and pinker sabre 190! i did end up with a jumpsuit that accidently matched the container though, and had a blue pro-tec so i didn't look too bad on the ground. under canopy, it looked like i had a cloud of cotton candy over my head."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." hackish 8 #14 October 20, 2008 When you decide on your colours keep in mind that bright ones like orange have a tendency to fade. How good will the rig look after you've put 700 jumps on it? -Michael

Chrisky 2 #16 October 21, 2008 Nice colors... Good for canopies, can be seen against every backdrop. However, I dont have a matching paintjob on the helmet yet. No reason colors shouldnt match if you buy the stuff new - it's your choice, after all. And if it looks nifty, so be it! Kell.nl 0 #21 October 22, 2008 There is no such thing as being too much color coordinated! erdnarob 1 #22 October 24, 2008 Choosing the color of a rig can be a very long exercice. Here is what I do. 1) choose a theme for the container (classy or flashy). For me the harness/container system colors have to be classy. I choose a dark color (black or navy blue) with always the binding tape of the same color than the container. Then I put some colorful piping on the middle flap. Please don't match the color of the cut away handle with the color of your rig, it's about safety. 2) choose a theme for the canopy colors (classy or multicolor or flashy, symetrical or not). I choose my canopy colors to be well distinctive from the ground and not symetrical. To get them looking brighter as seen from the ground put some black. Always use a computer program to test your choice. Most of the harness/container and canopy manufacturers are offering that service.Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all. Baksteen 84 #24 October 24, 2008 When I only had a few jumps I got this great deal on someone's only slightly battered altimeter. Nothing digital or "cool", but servicable enough. The colour black can just about be recognised on its casing. Then winter approached and I bought a full-face helmet. It might as well fit on my noggin so I bought new. The gear dealer asked me which colour I preferred. Thusfar I hadn't even given colour the slightest thought, but I settled on a black one as I happen to like black and because it looks good (equally bad) with everything. The jumpsuit was next. Embarrassed that most people had to bend double backwards (or go into a sit) to keep up with me (yes, I'm exaggerating) I decided I'd get as much cotton and cordura as I could-->custom suit. All the cool kids were getting black suits with red grips at the time so I decided I'd get something different, navy blue with yellow for variance and some silver highlights. Turned out the suit looked incredibly cool (to me - and other opinions don't matter) rather than the modest suit I had intended. Then my gloves gave out. I purchased some akandos and had the choice between white and black. Since I am allergic to white in any of my gear (way to much risk of dirt stains) I went with the black ones. Fast forward a year. Finally, finally I had managed to save up enough to buy gear. A friend gave me a great deal on his old my new jav3 which fit me like a glove and which happened to be completely black. As the main I had decided upon getting (Storm) was not available second-hand, I decided it could bloody well be in colours I liked. Suddenly i realised that black, the only colour which did not come back into my jumpsuit, was the only colour of all the rest of my gear. (except for my once-grey shoes) Cor... So I chose the canopy you can almost see in my current avatar: navy-navy-yellow-black-yellow-navy-navy...with a silver slider (which is in my neck when I land) - all the colours of the rest of my gear are represented in it. Yet when temperatures drop I'll be jumping that glow-in-the-dark jade-coloured "warm suit" again.. It may look horrible but at it keeps me warm, which is much more important to me than looking coo- er, good. Then again, if I turn blue with cold I'll match my jumpsuit...Cool! edited for the most obvious/dumbass spelling and grammar mistakes"That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
