Fun Fact: Cell Phone-Throwing Gaining Strength in Europe Archive

Volume 5 Issue 26 [July 11, 2005]

Not exactly an Olympic sport, but, hey, who knows?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

United Press International reports that Germany has produced its first competitor to enter the world championship of "Finnish Rules Mobile Phone Throwing" in August.

Germany ready to compete in the
world championship of "Finnish Rules Mobile Phone Throwing" in August.

Former javelin thrower Thomas Chedor beat out 50 other participants with a toss of 252 feet in Bielefield, Germany, in June. His effort landed short of the world record of just over 270 feet. Competition phones must weigh between 200 and 400 grams and each "athlete" has only one throw.

In the children's division, a 9-year-old named Markus won with a 98-foot throw.

Chedor will now compete against national champions from Britain, Israel, Norway, Austria, Russia and Switzerland.

I tell ya, when I'm in a theater & some moron's cell phone goes off, & then s/he starts TALKING into it, as if his/her little conversation is more important than anything in the universe...>:( well, at that moment I think I could set a record in that event.

perhaps how the phone shatters upon impact should be part of the judging too, also, the curve of the arc in flight, the spin in flight, and double points if you are talking to your boss when the phone is launched.
