Germany ready to compete in the world championship of "Finnish Rules Mobile Phone Throwing" in August. Former javelin thrower Thomas Chedor beat out 50 other participants with a toss of 252 feet in Bielefield, Germany, in June. His effort landed short of the world record of just over 270 feet. Competition phones must weigh between 200 and 400 grams and each "athlete" has only one throw. In the children's division, a 9-year-old named Markus won with a 98-foot throw. Chedor will now compete against national champions from Britain, Israel, Norway, Austria, Russia and Switzerland.
