CHICAGO - That was easy.

A bank robber behind the wheel of his car Tuesday sent a note through a vacuum tube to the teller at the drive-through window at a branch of Chicago’s LaSalle Bank, and the teller obliged, returning an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The exchange was completed through the bank’s pneumatic tube communications system, in which canisters are passed back and forth between motorist and teller.
The FBI said it was investigating the drive-through theft.

I just had to laugh when i read this....:D:D

News here reported about $56,000. They are behind bullet proof glass. Sounds like an inside job to me ;)

$56,000 robbery at bank drive-thru

July 13, 2005

BY MONIFA THOMAS Staff Reporter Advertisement

Even bank robbers appreciate a drive-through window.

Police say a man drove up to a LaSalle bank at 3301 N. Ashland about 8 a.m. Tuesday and slid a note demanding money to the teller through a tube at the window.

The teller complied, shooting back about $56,000, Belmont District police said. The robber sped off in a blue, older-model minivan, they said.

"No weapon was displayed or implied," said Chicago FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates. "He never left his vehicle."

It was the first of two bank robberies Tuesday morning that netted a combined total of at least $86,000, police said.

$30,000 taken in second robbery

The second robbery occurred at a Charter One bank at 2752 W. Montrose.

Two men carrying paint buckets and wearing zippered overalls and matching cloth slippers entered the bank about 10:40 a.m., Yates said.

No customers were inside the bank at the time. The men used a handgun concealed inside one of the buckets to force the bank employees behind the counter.

When none of the employees was able to open the vault, the men took money from the tellers' drawers and ATM, fleeing on foot with at least $30,000.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, Yates said.

Officials think the two men involved in the Charter One robbery also were responsible for robbing a Bank One branch at 2603 N. Halsted on July 6, Yates said.

The FBI plans to release sketches of the two robbers today. Grainy video footage captured the LaSalle Bank robbery, but a detailed description of the robber was not immediately available.

maybe they threatened to send some anthrax or something through the tube if they didnt comply... thats not really considered a weapon, but something deadly could have been threatened to pass through.

aww hell, i dont know, either that or the teller is a moron :P

LaSalle bank at 3301 N. Ashland

I used that bank branch office for years for both my business and personal accounts! If I recall, back then the drive thru was totally automated, with a TV monitor since the tellers were down the street (corner of Lincoln/Ashland/Belmont).

An article I read over 30 years ago had a similar story....The drive thru thief pointed his gun at the TV monitor (there wasn't a man behind a window), threatened to shoot the monitor, and he got away with the cash!

Maybe this guy's note threatened the bank teller's family or something external.....?
