hedda 0 #1 October 13, 2008 I have 135 PD Spectre, which I am very satisfied with, unbelievable smooth openings and it´s fun and quick. But the PD storm has caught my attention, and the question is, what are the differences from PD Storm to Spectre ? Would be very nice to hear opinions from someone who has experienced the storm CP
 tdog 0 #2 October 13, 2008 Quote I have 135 PD Spectre, which I am very satisfied with, unbelievable smooth openings and it´s fun and quick. But the PD storm has caught my attention, and the question is, what are the differences from PD Storm to Spectre ? Would be very nice to hear opinions from someone who has experienced the storm CP I put 4 jumps on a 135 (loaded 1.7). I found the canopy to be a little more sporty with more range on the controls and a real nice flare. Openings very nice. Lots of range on the toggles before stall. Very zippy turns. Two of my landings were with a 180ish front riser. I got a pretty nice plane out too. I think you should demo one... I know if I was looking for a 7 cell I would get the Storm over the Spectre. Heck, I would have gotten the Storm over my Sabre 2 that I use for wingsuiting. Also, I don't think any other manufacture can compete in this arena, PD has a real unique product.
 Skwrl 56 #3 October 13, 2008 I demo'ed a Spectre 190 (six jumps), and I ended up buying a Storm 190 (now about 35 jumps). (I wanted a seven cell that would be less prone to linetwists given that I pretty much wingsuit exclusively.) Both opened nicely and on heading. I found the flare on the Storm to be stonger/more effective than the Spectre. The Spectre seemed to have a steeper glide than the Storm. The Storm seemed more responsive on turn/toggle inputs. First a demo (30 jumps) then my own (20 jumps). All are conservative estimates. The spectre had about 50-100 jumps on it and both Storms were brand new. I basically agree with what Skwrl is saying, but I'd like to add that the Storm is amazingly responsive to rear riser input, but has higher pressure on the fronts. I dunno about the glide angle, but the Storm loses a lot more altitude in turns. It somehow has a lot more forward speed than you'd expect if you're used to a spectre while it still seems to carry you a lot further (if that's even possible) - until the last ten, fifteen jumps I kept misjudging forward speed and overshooting my target by half a dropzone while I could land the spectre reasonably accurately from jump #1. Then again, accuracy has never been my strong suit. Maybe it's just a matter of a penny that dropped quicker when I was jumping the Spectre. Basically I had already decided to buy the Spectre when I demoed the Storm, just out of curiosity. It depends on what you want. I wanted a snappy canopy because I enjoy flying and canopy control and wanted a challenge suitable for my experience level. If a parachute is merely a way of getting to the earth relatively safely after doing your stuff, the Spectre is an excellent choice. The spectre in itself is a great canopy, had I not demoed the Storm I am certain that the Spectre would have kept me happy for several hundreds of jumps too. The storm is simply a bit more of a challenge at equal size and loading. In my newb opinion the Storm is not a replacement for the Spectre, but the logical next step."That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
 ASTKU 1 #5 October 13, 2008 I found this thread to be helpful.... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3253613;search_string=pd%20storm;#3253613 BTW I jump a spectre and was supposed to demo a storm but they sent me the wrong size.oops. they are very helpful and definitely take care of their customers! But I´m a little doubtful about the buy because I want a CP I can have for a little longer time then just a hundred more jumps really. I am not too experienced yet, but I love CP flying, and I practise front-riser turns (not in the landings.. yet!) and love to play with and test my canopy Does anyone have any more info about the reaction of riser/ toggle turns? To get my Spectre on a full front-riser turn, I have to work hard and precise to get them right. Empty the cells with toggles and then pull like heck! Maybe the Storm is more responsive? Everybody is telling me to get a Sabre2 instead, but I do not prefer the openings(where is my end cells?????) and generally not a fan sadly. While the openings can be a bit wonky, but soft, the landings are very nice and the flare point is fairly intuitive. It planes out quite nicely too.Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
