RkyMtnHigh 0 #26 July 19, 2005 I think I'm still a lowtimer...however I DO have fun when I can tell someone a simple tip to make a sit a lil easier and when they land they say "holy shit! that lil tip you gave me on the plane made all the difference in me holding my sit..i'm not corking anymore" ...now THAT is kuhl for me. I love love love to teach and have the feedback that my technique is working. Otherwise, I love to jump with everyone regardless of discipline and jumps #s...I can hang with the Big Guys too...which makes me "up" my game I love this sportMy other half on the other hand is AWESOME at "teaching"...he's a natural of making the most complex seems so simple and natural. I teach with lil scenarios on the ground but mostly in the air by monkey see monkey do, but he's better at scenarios of what to expect once you're up there in action. Low timers as in Beginners, less than 200 is good. Low timer in a very general sense. Less than 1000. It just seems to me that no one will REALLY take you very seriously in this sport until you pass AT LEAST the 1000 mark.
 crutch 0 #32 July 19, 2005 I didn't vote because this is way too general of a poll to consider what a "low timer" is. I think of myself as a low timer everytime i put my wingsuit on. There are plenty of birdmen/women who fly cicrles around me, so in that sense I am a low timer. I also know plenty of "experienced" skydivers (1000+ jumps) who have lots of trouble closing in on an 8-way. Trying to put this alll in perspective, listen and learn, lots of people with 100 jumps or so have taught me lots of things. Not listening, no matter how experienced you are, is doing yourself a diservice for a chance to learn. I agree with what you are saying, but this poll was SUPPOSED to be really general based on another thread. I just hate sterotypes, hell there are a lot of freeflyers with 200 jumps who fly cicrles around me, I ask them to teach me something! I concur. In SoCal we have the tube thingy and people with low jump numbers can frequent that thing more than the real thing. We did a 6 way comp and had 2 girls with low jump numbers; one had less than 150 and the other less than 250. We placed 3rd out of 7 teams. I'm the low-timer on staff since we have 4 guys with over 10,000 each, a few over 6,000, while the average is close to 2,500. To admit to being a low timer means being open to learning as much as possible to everyone else, and there are so many subspecialties in skydiving that probably every jumper is a low timer in some facet of it. The day I stop feeling like a low timer or fail to get just a little bit nervous is the day I quit jumping since being cocky or over-confident is a good way to get hurt.
