Isfrael 0 #1 October 4, 2008 Hi all, I'm really liking the two helmets offered by Bonehead, the Mamba and Havok. I really like them because of there full face shield design due to the upcoming winter season here in Chicago land, the less skin exposed to the freezing air the better! Has anyone ever had a chance to try on both? your opinion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Joellercoaster 6 #2 October 4, 2008 I've owned both, and they were both good. The Havok was the most comfortable helmet I've ever tried on, and the face shield was extremely secure - I could fit glasses under it, though they fogged up anyway. Downside was the face shield too though; it's slightly bulkier than you expect and I found I would be knocking my head a bit in cramped planes. I ended up selling it, and the second owner is still wearing it. The Mamba I also like; it's the only traditional-shaped full-face that matches the shape of my head. It's also very comfortable, though if you have a big chin the plastic part on the front can be a bit pointy (I cut mine off). I would say though that, for a "deluxe" sort of helmet, the Mamba hasn't been super-durable. I don't treat it particularly well, but neither do I beat the hell out of it, and after maybe two hundred and fifty jumps it's starting to get pretty ratty, inside more than out. I am also on my third faceplate. Choosing between the two of them I'd still get a Mamba again, but I'm also convinced there must be something more durable out there. My girlfriend swears by her Oxygn (450-odd jumps old, still holding up) but I can't get my head into one and their faceplates seem to suffer from scratches worse than most.-- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, . d123 4 #3 October 5, 2008 From all the full face helmets that are out there, I've only jumped Havok so I can't compare with the others but here's my limited take on it: Cons: -Today at altitude -15C (5F) at ground level ~7-10C. In this temperature my Havok steamed up really good. -Emergency handles are in the blind spot. -Look is another minus. Unless you like to look like a N.A.S.A. dork who tries to impress tandem girls. -The fact that you can open the entire helmet and not only the visor is another minus. Under canopy is an open helmet = no jaw protection. Pro: - Really really confi. - Friendly to glasses. - Great padding makes it suitable for cold jumps (if you can put up with the steam). - 2 Auditives. - I find that in the plane, it simplifies the before exit procedures.(no need to put on the goggles, then the open face helmet and then "pump" the goggles to fight with the steam). I don't know about the Mamba.
denete 3 #5 October 7, 2008 My Havok doesn't fog at all. My glasses do fog if I don't do my usual pre-jump "cat crap" application. As far as how I look while wearing it goes...I can't see myself while I'm wearing it, so it doesn't matter. Chin to my chest, I can see my handles. Try one before you buy one. - DavidSCR #14809 "our attitude is the thing most capable of keeping us safe" (look, grab, look, grab, peel, punch, punch, arch)

I've never had my glasses fog up but I don't jump a full-face. This may change, so I'd like to know.http://icanhascheezburger.com/2008/02/28/funny-pictures-i-come-with-sarcasm/ Proudly uncool since 1982.
