wildblue 7 #1 July 7, 2005 If you opened this thread, I'm assuming the title meant something to you Ahhhh.. the good 'ol days... door games, echo mail, 14400 was fast, warez, ANSI graphics!!! I found my old manual for Renegade last night... WildCat was crap B.R.E. and L.O.R.D. were the greatest games ever. Now that everyone else is completely confused, I'll go back to my corner.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
2fat2fly 0 #2 July 7, 2005 I remember arguing passionatly about local politics on the "Mechanic's Garage" and playing Yankees and Rednecks...oh and picking up the psycho chick at the bbs cook-out. I was such a geek (in the bad, doofus way)I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
Kris 0 #3 July 7, 2005 Whoa, I just had a serious flashback. If you don't mind, I need to go fire up my copy of ProComm and log into some Renegade and OBV/2 boards. I have warez and lit packs to distribute! Hasta, Random TBH4o5, cYst, PHaiTH, Razor1911 Distro
IanHarrop 42 #4 July 7, 2005 I remember when I first used a terminal that would go 300 baud. Boy that was fast compared to 110. The world has turned - now something more than 100 times faster (36k) is considered slow."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
Thanatos340 1 #5 July 7, 2005 Z-Modem, X-Modem, Kermit... Which DL Protocol to Use. Actually I had more fun with my old C-64 BBS`s. The day I finally upgraded my 300 baud Modem for a 1200 baud was incredible. The text Appeared almost immediately instead of Line by Line. Started up my own BBS using 2 1541 Drives and then a few Months later went BIG TIME with the board when I got a 10mb Lt. Kernel. O-day Warez for all the Elite Members. Anyone remember Q-Link?? Hated it from day one but always had a hacked account.
Joellercoaster 6 #6 July 7, 2005 And when the board upgraded to a bleeding-edge gigabyte drive array... unthinkable amounts of information at your fingertips! MichaelC 0 #12 July 7, 2005 Renegade, TriBBS, WildCat... That does bring back some old memories. Like cussing for about two weeks trying to setup a FIDO net node. nate_1979 9 #13 July 7, 2005 Great stuff The first two BBSs I logged into were a QuickBBS board at 2400bps, and a C-64 board at 300bps.... I also ran a BBS for awhile, lots of fun... I remember playing Tradewars 2002 and Operation Overkill all the time, my favorite two online games You know I found a little while back a BBS that still runs Tradewars and shit, you can telnet into it. diablopilot 2 #15 July 7, 2005 Remembering the days of the C64 with an acoustic coupling non-autodial 300 baud connection, then C128 board, with a starting with 2 floppy drives and finaly up to a 5 meg external. never ran higher than 9600 baud.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. TallGuy 0 #17 July 7, 2005 Ahhh those were the days. I actually ran a Renegade BBS. On my lovely 14.4 modem 80 megabyte (before compression) hard drive and the best homemade ANSI art in all of Maine. Mmmmm TradeWars.

I'm going back to school in the fall and that game almost caused me to flunk out in freshman year LAST time. Damned if I'll let it do that to me again! Scorched earth was a MASSIVE time burner too. At least with that game you could destroy your friends' college careers as well! I still remember one of my budies scrolling through some arcane .txt message, white letters on the black screen with "|more" forever at the bottom of the screen, trying to explain to me what this "email" was and how it worked... Ah... those were the days. Elvisio "
ChasingBlueSky 0 #21 July 7, 2005 I do miss the days of old...txt files...multi color and flashing txt as well. Searching the BBS to find hacks for a Novell 3.11 network was a nightly ritual for me. It was amazing the artwork that was created with ASCII! I remember when it took all night to download this hot new game called Wolfenstein 3-D from the BBS I was on. And to think 14 years later I am playing with thousands of people online in World Of Warcraft._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... nate_1979 9 #22 July 8, 2005 Just double checked, but I still have my entire BBS as it was when I took it offline, stored in a big ass .ZIP file The ANSI graphics were something else, I remember making those in a program called TheDraw FGF #???
