Any bat lovers?

Recommended Posts

Bats are icky but cool. I discovered by accident the other day that some live in the eve of our Ops house. I was walking in and one flew out right at head height. I ducked but then looked up into the stone work to see one crawling out. It made my skin crawl but I was glad they are there. I would much rather have bats than mosquitos! B|

anyone ever been to that bridge in Austin TX that leads downtown?

Umm... yeah... Read two posts above you. :P

Here is a nice picture of the bats coming out from the bridge:

And I will be in Austin next Tuesday (woo hoo! I am excited because I haven't been there in a while and I am SO homesick!)

Damn you coming home to elope with me?

Becca just placing a bat house on your house won't make them magically appear. You can try to bait them.. Took a year or two for me to get a nice family living in my bat house. They didn't do much for the mosquito control either. Were pretty cool to watch leave the nesting house around dusk though.

What!? No mosquito control?? It's a freakin' smorgasbord out there! I was hoping to turn the tables and get the skeeters on the menu instead of poor sweet little me! [:/]

Well screw it then! Sounds like a bunch of effort just to have bats AND mosquitos flying around my house.

Unless someone gives me a good reason...

I can't say they didn't kill mosquito's .. they just didn't rid me of the menace that is mosquitos in south Texas.

I think you could drop a 3 kiloton bomb on Houston, come back 5 days later and you'd have mosquitos flying around looking for blood.

hmmm there's a store here in Maryland that sells bathouses.

But the people who run the store say that bats don't eat all that many mosquitoes. Bats tend to go after larger insects like moths, grasshoppers, junebugs, etc.

Well that's true...

We have a mosquito magnet, we spray, we fog, we light 'bug-away' lanterns, and there's still too many. They know man, they know to avoid those things or they breed out aversion or something.

I was kinda hoping a bat would be like a mini-hoover or something... they eat their weight in insects every night. That's a lot of mosquitos!
