What is your ratio of # jumps/# posts ?

Recommended Posts

146 jumps/ 1340 posts.
But, if you take out all the posts where I was being a smart ass, flirting, or typing out of boredom (like now), then my serious post numbers would be about 8.

Good question...I've often wondered the same...usually only in the technical forums though.
I'm at 425 jumps and about 30 posts I believe. I usually make it a point not to post unless I can actually contribute something to the thread which hasn't yet been covered or if I have a question.

I have an A license, yet D qualified.

I'm often very curious what people mean by statements like this.
I realize that technically it's possible to be qualified for D-license and only hold an A, but I can't understand the logic of doing so, nor can I really understand how a person can call themselves D-license qualified if they haven't actually taken the test yet. Once you've passed the test, you pay a couple of bucks and send in the paper work -- bingo D-license.
If, on the other hand, they are saying they're qualified for a D-license, simply because they have over 200 jumps, then they're deluding themselves.
What's the deal?

Post ratio: 4.3
I'm also D license qualified, wait a minute, I did get my D license:)I have watched that most people just get A and C licenses. an A so they can jump at about any DZ and later the C so they can do most of the fun jumps.
The D license usually only shows up for the pro ratings and instructor stuff.
I got all my numbers just to have them.

Paul I'm in a similar situation as Ann. I've met all the requirements but 2 for my D. 1 of which is the test and the second is the RW night jump. I might have to apply for a restrictive licence if I can't get on any night jump loads soon. I've doen the RW, I've done the jump numbers, I've even taken the test once and got a 85 but since I did'nt have the second night jump in they would'nt let me count it.....

Or if you want to compete in a USPA sanctioned comp...
I know folks that have their A so they can jump at most DZ's and have meet all the requirements for a D (including passing the test and a signed application) but don't want to part w/the $20.

who would not let you count it? There is no requirement to have the night jumps before you take the test... I know a few folks that took all 4 tests (A-D) at one time then filled in the other requirements as they got them.

Pardon me while I demonstrate my ignorance...
I was under the impression that the application (signed by appropriate instructor) was actually a D-license, and the applicant had the option of mailing it with the $20 to the USPA to have it recorded, get another USPA logo sticker, and recieve a license number, in case the person lost his application(license).
Just out of curiosity, am I wrong here?

This is how the A license works now, but not the others.

Yep, what JD said.
The only license you can possess without a number is the new A license card with the appropriate signature and "A" stamp on it.
The other three have to be submitted to USPA and have a number assigned for your license. Now, you can meet all the requirements, pass all the tests, and then just pay one $20 fee for say, your D license if you don't want to spend all $80.

Interesting.
I believe that the rules are that they're not supposed to let you take the test until all the other requirements have been met, but I could be wrong (it's been known to happen).
In either case, if you don't meet all the requirements, like the lack of an RW night jump. Then you don't actually qualify.
Harsh, I know, but true.

Yeah, but then you wouldn't get the three stickers. :)Thanks all for clarifying.

Well, seeing as I was the original Addict/Veteran : 207:2063 ie about 0.01
Seeing as how most of those were posted here and I generally only post asking for advice in the discipline forums, I don't really give a shit. For those of us not lucky enough to spend our *work* days on a dz this is a great place to waste company time and chat to skydivers from all over the world (even America!).
I'd love to know how these ratios are supposed to have any bearing on anything said in the Talkback forum.

Maybe I am just trying to work through my own reality of being a "Newbie"... I realize that there are many good educational posts here and I will be the first to say that I have learned things here myself.
My observation comparing people with 200 jumps nowadays with people having 200 jumps in the 60s or 70s is that there are so many more disciplines to learn today. When I had 200 jumps, I was an "Expert" at falling... but then that's about all we did back then. When we got lucky enough to grab hands as we flew by each other, we called it RW.
So, really, when I had 200 jumps, I was an "Expert" whuffo. Today, with accelerated canopy progression, head-down flying, winged suits, and 3-D formations, it would be difficult for anybody to become "Expert" at all of these new disciplines in only 200 jumps.

By the way, what are your favorite forums?

My favorite Forums here are Talk Back (of course), Safety and Training, Gear and Rigging, and Swooping and Canopy Control, in no particular order.
My ratio is pretty high, but I have made more posts today than I have made jumps, so my ratio is decreasing by the minute. By making this post, I am now one post closer to not being a Newbie. I can't wait.

My ratio isn't great - 1200 posts and 300 jumps.
I certainly don't think I'm an expert, but I do think I'm qualified to answer certain questions and pass on certain kinds of advice. I think I've learned more in my 300 jumps then some do in 500. I'm a pretty introspective person, I'm also the type that seeks out knowledge by referencing people who know much more then I. I stand on the shoulders of giants.
I am two accuracy jumps under my stiletto shy of a D licence. This weekend, I hope.
I trust that should I be wrong someone will put me in my place.

Quade-
You always have some bizzare ass question. What is the deal?
Its easy, I have all the qualifications for B, C, and D. I just am not a card carring member of the D license group.
Some posts here conclude with the person indicating the reason they know oh so much is because they hold a D license or maybe that they have 1400 jumps. I dont really think it means all that, the license that is. But I could be wrong.

simply because they have over 200 jumps, then they're deluding themselves.

I guess or I suppose you have reasons for that statement. The main thing I care about is (in this fourm or circumstance) is the value of the information shared. I dont stop to think what license they hold as I am listening to information gathered by experience. I am going to make up my own mind anyway.
But then that is just me.
