The111 1 #1 July 28, 2005 I was talking to a local at Zhills this weekend who mentioned that WFFC last year was very cold. I asked him if he was serious, saying that I was afraid it would be hot at this time of year. His response? "Oh yeh, you have to worry about that too. It's a really weird place. Best pack warm and cold clothes." Is this for real? Anybody local to the area care to comment on the consistency of the climate this time of year and what I should expect? I was planning on just bringing a small suitcase full of warm weather clothes...www.WingsuitPhotos.com
kelel01 1 #2 July 28, 2005 At night last year, it got down into the 40's, I think. I can't remember ever being THAT cold, mainly because I didn't have a sleeping bag (just a blanket). During the day, though, I'd say it was mid-high 80's.
Buried 0 #3 July 28, 2005 just bring a sweatshirt and you should be ok. yesterday was 55 at night..and high 80's during the day. 55 is cold for some. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?
gravitational 0 #4 July 28, 2005 The weather last year was not normal for that region at all. Record lows were broken during the convention as I recall. Plan for warm as it probaby will be, but be prepared for cold if it does rise up again. a fleece and a pair or two of jeans should keep you set for the week. Have fun, be safe...------ Michael

Peej 0 #6 July 28, 2005 I think a lot of people got caught last year. The days were pretty warm and i spent them in shorts and tee-shirt but the nights were F**CKING cold. Especially after the major storm we had one night. I thought i was gonna get back to my tent and it was gonna be flat. Luckily it survived though. I survived it with jeans and two sweaters on at the same time cos i lent my down jacket to a girl who brought nothing warm. ChasingBlueSky 0 #9 July 28, 2005 Last year officially broke the record for the coldest days in August for Illinois - a record that was over 100 years old. To say it was odd is an understatement. All of us were caught off guard and froze our asses off at night while we sat on the ground during the day watching a low cloud ceiling (made for some entertaining hop-n-pop moments). Overall August is considered the hottest month in this area and some of the weeks at Quincy were just hot as hell (and humid). You can always expect it to be hot, humid, and at least one or two powerful storms. "THE Storm" at Quincy took out nearly all of the tents as the winds topped out at 90+mph for a few moments (the same storm blew out several windows in my apartment). In a typical year it is 80-90F in Aug with at least one storm a week. As eeneR said - weather here can change kinda quick. In one day we went from six weeks of almost no rain, 102F temps, to 70's and two solid days of rain._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I was planning on just bringing a small suitcase full of warm weather clothes... You betcha!! Although it's extremely unlikely that it'll get as cold as it did last year, the temperatures do fluctuate here in August. So far, the long range forecasts are indicating that the end of next week, it'll be dry and upper eightees/middle sixties. The absolutely best weather forecasting you'll get for this area is from the REAL meteorologists (Ed and Mike) here at the University of Illinois. As a matter of fact, you can speak with him personally, on the air tomorrow morning during the weekly, Firday morning, "Talk to ED/Talk to Mike" show ... there's a toll free number. Tell him yer a WFFC conventioneer and that you want to know what the weather's gonna be like the next couple of weeks. Talk to Ed/Talk to Mike Fridays at 7:50 am & 12:40 pm Call on the air at 217-333-9455 or 800-222-9455 with your weather questions (all times Central)
Fast 0 #11 July 28, 2005 Welcome to the midwest. The only thing that I can say for sure about the weather is that I don't know for sure what its going to be like. Packing warm and cold is a wise decision though it sucks a bit on the whole space issue. Oh and yea something about rain, who knows it could be a drought by then, its still 8 days away. In all honesty, yesterday at the DZ i had on pants and could of done long sleeves. Sunday I was in a jumpsuit with only boxers and a t-shirt underneath chugging water cause it was so hot I couldn't stop sweating even inside in the air conditioning. You live here long enough you get used to it fluctuating. Its kinda nice actually at times.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. nathaniel 0 #12 July 28, 2005 What everyone else said. Also prepare for rain. Even though we're currently experiencing a category 3 "extreme" drought in IL, August is the wettest month of the year, and when it rains it tends to rain all at once.My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?

happythoughts 0 #16 July 29, 2005 I always pack a couple of pairs of jeans and a sweatshirt since I got caught at Quincy once. It got amazingly cold and Jumper Sportswear sold out of their sweatshirts in about an hour. It's not much trouble to pack an extra something, just in case.
