sid 1 #1 July 29, 2005 It's been a while since I've ever felt proud of my British heritage, but watching Fox News right now and seeing how the British Police are handling the seige/take down in Notting Hill - wow. What looks like the SAS just rolled up in an unmarked vehicle, wearing Ski Masks, and just quietly and confidently "tooled up" and went towards the apartment. Have you also noticed how every British Cop is pretty much lean, fit and looks like they could "whoop yer ass" without breaking a sweat, compare that to the Dunkin Donut munching 300 lb monsters I see in rural NY....... Way to go Brits (I still ain't coming back though) Pete Draper, Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right? Hackb431 0 #3 July 29, 2005 I had the pleasure of haning out with some of the Royal Commandos while in Afghanistan back in 2002. Talk about professionalism to the point of bordering on elitism. I hear what you say about "large" and in charge police force. It seems like here in the states about 25% of the cops I see would get out ran by an electric wheel chair. No worries though.HackB A.K.A. popsjumper 2 #4 July 29, 2005 I have a high level of respect for the British police, the German Polezei, the Korean ROKs and the Isreali commandos....don't screw around with any of them..... American police? Seems they have to be kept in check quite a bit...give them a little power and they abuse it beyond the pale.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239

jraf 0 #8 July 29, 2005 Yeah...the Greman Polizei...I had some contact with the guys at Praesidium 1 (precinct 1) at Koeln. We had a lengthy intellectual conversation, we exchanged POVs and then the next morning I went home. My stomack was beaten behind my spine, but one of them had a pencil imbedded in his arm and a couple of others were missing teeth and hair. Real fun stuff!!!jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. GeordieSkydiver 0 #9 July 29, 2005 I've worked with both our SO-19 and the German GSG9 and both are very good professional police units. I'd have to give the nod to our boys though.Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
gemini 0 #10 July 29, 2005 Let's see...tense situation...post bombings...told to stop....ran from police...subway was recent target...crowded area! I will only criticize them when I have walked in their shoes! Blue skies, Jim
ccowden 0 #11 July 29, 2005 Yup, shit happens. But why don't we walk in the innocent man's shoes too then. Let's see...tense situation...post bombings...police yelling, flashing guns...subway was recent target...crowded area! I only critisized them because American police were critisized first. No police force is perfect, and I respect any who put their lives on the line to protect and serve, EVEN the "Dunkin Donut munching 300 lb. monsters." ChrisL 2 #12 July 29, 2005 Cool! From this thread we have learned: All police in Britain are lean, mean, and totally justified in everything they do, and never make mistakes. Even killing an innocent person is OK as long as its a british officer that does it. All police in the USA are fat, lazy, power crazed, and currupt! Hmmm. You know what. I'll bet there are just as many of BOTH kinds of cops on BOTH sides of the pond. Kudos to the police in London for the work they have been doing. Too bad an innocent was killed but this IS war and sometimes people get caught in the corssfire. Kudos ALSO to police in MANY MANY parts of the USA that work just as hard and tirelessly to keep us safe over here. To the shithead cops on BOTH SIDES of the ocean. You suck.__ My mighty steed
gemini 0 #13 July 29, 2005 Be interesting to see if others nearby ran when police yelled to stop. We have had a series of problems in Houston where people run from the police and then are injured either by the police or their own mistake during the chase. Even had a regular duty policeman kill a reserve policeman who was chasing a suspect in civilian clothes with a drawn pistol. When the regular cop yelled stop, the reserve cop turned with the gun in his hand. Except for the above instance, it seems like all the other "suspects" had some reason for running other than just being scared. If you run, my feeling is you are implying that you did something. I feel sorry when any life is lost by accident or mistake, but if you run you are limiting your chances dramatically. We all make mistakes. Unfortunately in police work, parachuting, etc. some mistakes cost lives. Doesn't mean the person(s) involved wanted to take a life, planned to take a life, started out the day saying "I'm gona' take someone's life today." ccowden 0 #14 July 29, 2005 Thank you. Exactly my point. Let's not make it seem that American cops are fat lazy people and British cops are all lean and mean and don't make mistakes. That's all I am saying.
GeordieSkydiver 0 #15 July 29, 2005 I met some incredibly cool and professional sheriffs when I was working in China Lake CA. Mind you, one of them was a brit who jumped ship... These guys were seriously tooled up, they had a half section worth of small arms in the boot of their patrol cars. (which they patrolled in solo... ) Kudo's to anyone who stands up to be counted in the name of law enforcement or peacekeeping.Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
